How does this compares to a Pixel device, for example?. Shame on Apple!!!!5 years is also temporary.
From Google page:

When you'll get Pixel updates

Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro phones will get Pixel updates for at least 5 years from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US. Pixel updates include Pixel security updates, and may also include feature drops and other software updates.
This thread is referring to software version, not hardware version. With hardware version Apple is doing fine; iPhone 6s has received updates for 7 years, not 5 (iOS 9 - iOS 15) assuming iOS 15 updates stop after iOS 16 is released (but hopefully they'll continue to offer security updates for devices that can't update to iOS 16).

I don’t doubt that Apple meant this to be temporary. However, it sure would be nice if they could just be honest and say, “We used a poor choice of words when describing the ability to remain on iOS 14 and caused unnecessary confusion. This was our fault and we apologize.”
Exactly. As usual, Apple’s marketing team falls short again.

Oh, Apple. What is so wrong with people wanting to not upgrade to iOS 15 except for your numbers?
Good for Apple: Less OSes to maintain and provide security updates.
Good for users: Apple will make older devices upgradeable for longer.

Every time apple stops allowing a new OS to be installed on an older device, they have to support that device‘s OS with security updates until they ”obsolete“ it.

If a large majority fails to upgrade, future iOS versions will remove the option to exclude updating. Apple knows better than you what’s best. MacOS will follow as well.
blah, blah, blah. lets move on folks, nothing to see here. If you don't want to install iOS 15, don't

This should surprise no one. They want to move everyone to the current OS. Means lower support cost, lower cost to update, and better support experience for everyone.

Stuff like this makes me wish they'd switch away from annual version releases. I have been on iOS 15 since beta, but it's annoying to have all of this weird adoption and rollout hesitancy bait. When people complain about issues during a two year adoption cycle, it's clear what needs worked on, as opposed to focusing on new half-baked releases like universal control, and ignoring the faulty foundations.

I seriously don’t understand why people complain of a steeped function introduction of features during the year. It balances workload for Apple and this theoretically reduces mistakes.

Instead of looking at features coming 1/2 year late, look at them coming a 1/2 year early.

iOS may now offer a choice between two software update versions in the Settings app. You can update to the latest version of iOS 15 as soon as it’s released for the latest features and most complete set of security updates. Or continue on iOS 14 and still get important security updates.

The Macrumors article provides an incomplete quote of what Apple actually said. Apple said iOS "may" offer a choice between two software update versions so it was always at their discretion. Personally I'd prefer Apple continue offering iOS 14 security updates, but the "may" was always a pretty meaningless promise.

Did iOS15 deprecate any models? Usually Apple doesn’t leave old models out in the cold like that. But if 15 runs on all 14 devices, one should consider oneself SOL…
