Apple should bring something like this back.

- Removing the bezels and keeping the same footprint, you could probably fit a 12.5" screen in there
- The original one was 2lbs. The 11" iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard is 2.4lbs, so Apple has some weight and thickness to play with for sure. They can definitely put in a proper keyboard, a MagSafe connector, and two USB-C ports and still be lighter and more portable than the 11" iPad Pro + MK

Typing on a Gold 2015 version now. Glad I got another battery in January before the price went up.

Good for travel and basic stuff still.

That fact that people are still using this outdated and underpowered (even for its time) computer just shows there was something great about the form factor that Apple has not created a suitable replacement for.

An 11" tablet with a keyboard accessory where the screen is an inch smaller and the whole thing weighs more than a laptop from 2015, is not a replacement.

How much will this cost? You just bring it to a store? Do you wait or leave it and come back. I need to do this but never have before.
Just make a repair request through apples website, and you’ll bring it into the store. They’ll do their battery test, and I believe it’s 200$ that you then pay. They'll take it for a few days and then you back, this will be my second battery replacement for it

My early 2016 12" MacBook is a total piece of crap. The charger port barely clings to the cord, the keyboard has to be literally smashed for keys to register, and the thing has always been slow as molasses.

Good riddance to these piece of crap machines. Apple should have known better.

I had one that was flawless and I kicked it down to the lady when the m1 air came out. She still loves it

Strangely enough, the 12 inch MacBook is the best “windows” laptop I’ve ever had lol!
I keep mine just for that really. It actually runs windows pretty fast, much faster than it runs Mac OS.

It’s stupidly light and can do basic programming tasks well. Conversely my iPad can’t really do anything like as much in that department. So as a light weight throw in a bag computer that can run Mac OS and windows and get something done anywhere.. is there anything better??

This year I got a 2017 i7 16GB ram for 300€ + 60€(battery), I use it for office tasks (word + excel + powerpoint), web browsing and some small coding projects, it works perfectly and really confortable when I am traveling, but for heavy tasks like coding with docker + IntelliJ or communication with MS Teams I need to use my MacBook Pro.
I wish Apple releases same form factor but with M chip in the future, would be a perfect convo for me, together with a 16" MacBook Pro.

Still using my 2017 i7/16gb/512gb as my daily driver. It still does all I need it to, all day battery life, and no keyboard problems. I will keep this going as long as I can. Battery health still hovering around 90%. Will definitely get its battery replaced before the 2017 model becomes vintage.

Would absolutely be first in line to purchase an Apple silicon version if Apple released one.

Exactly the same here. And always with me in my bag. By the way, this is the perfect bag for this Macbook 12". Exactly same dimensions.

I just want to add my voice to the chorus : the Macbook 12 is the best iPad !

seriously , i would immediately buy a new one based on Silicon processor. This is the only Mac I’m tempted to carry all the time with me and travel with. As much as i like my iPad , i rely on a bunch of apps that are either unavailable on iOS , or their iOS versions are way too simplified to be useful to me.

I just ended a call with AppleCare: the availability of parts for products under AppleCare warranty is guaranteed, despite the obsolescence. Service is not guaranteed to be available at all Apple service centres, but there is a stock of parts available.
In fact, a couple of years ago in a few weeks I had 7 Apple Watch 2 Edition Ceramics in my hands, so it's true that they have stocks of parts.
