This is the entire reason they have the beta program, so issues like this don't happen.

Sorry, but it isn't that simple. I feel for people that experienced the issue, but people really need to understand that unforeseen issues is the nature of tech.

Apple will likely permanently resolve the issue for future updates, but that doesn't mean that new issues won't arise. It is a never ending battle.

Accidents happen. Humans aren't perfect.

You're right, but this has happened twice recently. Once is an accident, twice is carelessness.

There's a reason software is released in phased steps. Staging vs production environments. Beta vs stable. Mistakes should be caught before progressing to the final phase.

Here's hoping they'll do better with next years release. In the mean time not updating any of my hardware till it looks like things are all clear (like 10.02).

What about those countries which don't have Apple stores? ... There are Apple stores in 20 countries and in Nordics or Scandinavia there is only 3 and they all are in Sweden. Not mention small countries like Russia...
Oh my!!! Lets search for those edge cases to try to smear the update

Countdown until the rage spills over into this one about how it wasn't a small number of users, specifically from people that have no actual data on the issue.

RAGEEEEEEEEE!

We will never get any true data on those affected because Apple of course will never release it . But just have a look on this forum. Almost everyone with a 6s or iPad Pro had this issue.

I never had any problem with an iOS update before. So I'm not typically someone complaining. But this was a widespread issue not a few or some devices.

The problem with statements like this is that we have no idea what the actual problem was. It's easy to say "this happens all the time!", but chances are that each time there's been a problem it has been separate issues.

If you expect zero defects in production, you probably shouldn't work in tech.

This is not the first time this has happened. This is a hugely popular product from a $0.5 T company.

Totally unacceptable. This is a very serious issue. There needs to be process changes, not just "we apologize".

Nothing will change. This is the Cook era, not the Jobs era. At this point, you should assume devices will get bricked on launch day. Just think of it as part of the annual iPhone launch festivities.

I installed the beta GM version a few days ago, but the App Store won't let me leave any reviews, it says I need to be on the latest version? Any reason why? I'm on the 10.0.1 version.

No, they actually mean continue. When you plug it in there is a button to update as well as restore. Which one do you think means continue?
Thanks man - So you didn't think I tried that one? Am sitting now after pushing update with iTunes wanting to download iOS 9 again and trying to fix it ... Oh and by the way the servers are now screwed and it says 8 hours till the download is finished (my internet is 1000mbit both up and down, so pretty ****ed)

What is the gold masters release of this? As I am unable to get apple's servers to communicate with me to get the latest GM release, the version I have installed currently is; 10.0.1 (14A403) and it says it's the latest update... although I've had this on my phone for the last few weeks so I doubtful it's up to date..

History repeats itself:D

This is not the first time Apple does this. I always wait for people to test first.

The issue is using this and internet forums as a gauge for what everyone else dealt with.

1) Guaranteed places like this have people that want the update the second it comes out, general public will get it "when they get it".
2) When you have a problem you are most vocal, so it's few we will see that had nothing go wrong.

Just not a good measurement for the issue at hand. Yes, it hit many users .. but this is Apple and a small number to them is not the same as a small number to us. That's to be expected though as few of us have hundreds of millions of customers.

Shortly after iOS 10 was released, a number of people who attempted to install iOS 10 using an over-the-air download saw their installation fail, effectively bricking devices until plugged into iTunes for an update or restore. For people who are not near a computer or who do not own one, this is a significant problem.

I don't try changing a flat tire while I'm driving the vehicle (even if some people do).

There are some things it's safe to do "on the go". I'd say updating your operating system to a major revision isn't one of them.

Just installed iOS10 on my iPad mini. The messages update seems a bit gimmicky to me. I mean it's cool for pre teens and teens but I can't see myself using all those fancy smileys and what not. Not a fan of widgets. I do like that you can have 2 safari windows side by side now. That's about it. Overall meh
