Those who bricked their iPhones I personally THANK YOU ALL. You guys are the few brave souls. You sacrificed your time and effort and devices for the sake of the millions out there. In behalf of Timmy thank you once again and keep doing what your doing. Now I can safely download my update and have a peace of mind. :D

To those still having a problem:

I fixed mine with 2 things
i. updated to the latest itunes
ii. Patience. I know this is stupid but give it some time and it will work out. Also the new itunes has a new feature, i've never seen it at least, that tells you the %age of the update being downloaded.

"A small number People." What constitutes a small number of people? This is why I refuse to update their software, at least for two weeks, until issues like this inconvenience customers.

If it's overpriced why did you buy it? Man you guys crack me up.

"IM ANGRY AND THIS WAS OVERPRICED WHO MADE ME BUY THIS!!!???!"

With already a MacBook Pro and an iPad, the obvious choice was to go for an iPhone.
Clear enough?

And BTW, the issue is not fixed at all from where I sit. My iTunes claims the download will take 9 hours.

Replace your laptop with an iPad Pro...

Plug into iTunes to update your iPhone though.

Brilliant.
This.

...and I'm tired of people "making fun of" those without access to iTunes. Thousands of iPhone and iPad users do not use iTunes and Apple even promotes it that way. ...until something goes wrong, then "plug it into iTunes". Oh, and you better an have adaptor if you have a MacBook with only USB-C.

I love how much Apple downplays serious issues. I'm sure for those "small number of users", having a completely unusable phone for hours is nothing minor. Especially those that weren't able to connect to their computer via iTunes to restore it.
I know, it sucks but it's all good. It's just a phone, no one died. I'm locked out of mine until I get home. Thank goodness for my work Blackberry, LOL.

In a statement given to BuzzFeed's John Paczkowski, Apple says the issue that was causing iOS 10 updates installed over-the-air to fail on some iPads and iPhones has been resolved, making it safe to resume iOS 10 downloads.Shortly after iOS 10 was released, a number of people who attempted to install iOS 10 using an over-the-air download saw their installation fail, effectively bricking devices until plugged into iTunes for an update or restore. For people who are not near a computer or who do not own one, this is a significant problem.

Users who were already affected by the problem will need to continue on with the restore process using a computer, but new users who attempt to install the update should not run into the problem.

Apple recommends creating a backup before installing any new iOS update, and those worried about having the install fail can instead download the update through iTunes, an installation method that has not been affected.

Better brick than exploding :)

. . . . .
Could Apple be better? Sure. Do we need to call for someone's head every time there's a glitch? No.

Yes, we do. The first step in fixing the problem is setting expectations. If you don't expect better, then you won't get better. Now I understand a techie's view which is, "Please be nice to me, it was the best I could do." But often, that is not good enough. What we don't know is if management stepped in and shipped a faulty product, if management failed to allow proper testing time, or if someone failed to do their testing or development job. But in any case, it was a failure and we should not just let it go un-rewarded, otherwise it will continue to happen over and over again. Which seems to be the case at Apple.

6S in recovery mode and unable to fix via iTunes, have been trying for the last 2 hours. Sure it will work eventually but not good enough really.

So much self entitlement in this thread.

You know the risks of updating as soon as it's released, it's not Apple'a fault.

But now there are problems with the new iTunes/Apple Music on MacOS. Unable to connect to iCloud Music Library, whenever I try to add a track to my library.
ok good... i thought it was just me.... but I got the same message before I updated iTunes and thought it was because I haven't updated... I updated and still the same message...

Don't get me wrong, Craig F. is a great presenter and has awesome hair, but as head of software, his QA is terrible. Scott Forstall was boring and iOS 6 was a dud (feature-wise) but he produced very stable iOS releases.
Really, because I had more bricking issues with iOS 6 than any OS after it.
Not to mention iOS 2 from history, put a good damper in performance.

When connecting my iPad Pro 9.7 into iTunes, it shows it's onm 10.0.1 even though it failed OTA. It even looks like 10.0.1, but now I'm trying to restore as a backup which was on 9.3.5. It hasn't been working. It's almost as if I have to set it up as a new iPad.

On a bright note, my iPhone 6 is up and running after having to plug it into iTunes as well. I started downloading both around 10:05 PDT.

Well done Apple.

Not only that.......and it's FREE!

On a serious note:

Dear Apple users,

Please understand that any update should only be made AFTER a back up.

You do back up,RRRIGHTTT?

However that AFTER a back up scenario should only be AFTER waiting a day or two
to see what went wrong for most users.

Any large system upgrade breaks a few things you need. It is impossible for anybody to foresee.

In the meantime : If you did not follow common sense don't cry over bricked milk!
