But there will be no 27" iMac. Apple have said this. There is only one iMac, the current 24" one. If you want a Mac with a 27" display, there are plenty of options. I really don't know what the problem is. 🤷‍♂️
For those wishing for a 27" AIO solution from Apple, there is zero options. For those looking for 27" (or 34", 32", 24", 23", 21") AIO solutions in the PC world, there are lots of options. Perhaps you missed my earlier posts on this subject?

Two things here to unpack...

First, I, personally, would never presume to tell anyone how they should spend their hard-earned dollars. Fact is, not every shopper has the budget even for the lowest-priced 24" iMac. If one's budget can only buy 1080P then that's what will get purchased. And there are plenty of sub-$1K iMac knockoffs for sale this holiday season for which Apple has no competition.

Second, as an investor and shareholder, "blind faith" is not in my lexicon. I never presume to trust that anyone "knows what they are doing" in any venture involving human beings! LOL And that goes for the tens of thousands of folks at Apple. They're no different from any other enterprise in this regard and they are not immune from making incredible blunders. :)
So these people would never be in the market for a 27" iMac if they can't afford a 24" one. Apple has never been in the low end market or at least for as long as I have been following Apple.

These iMac users will never put a Windows AIO on their desk, it's beneath them.
I had one before I had my iMac (a Dell), and I'll have one again probably.

btw, I did some testing with my mini and a third party LG monitor to see if it would work as an AiO -- No volume control from a Mac, and a devilish hard time changing the volume on the monitor (bad UI on the monitor) itself. Total fail for a family computer type setup where a good iMac, or other intel AiO works GREAT...

Why Mac has a problem with this I'll never know, that's downright horrendous. I shouldn't have tried, all it did was tick me off. I'm trying other ways to "fix" the problem, but your average joe wouldn't be able to do it themselves. Apple Mac UI people are not that smart...

This is Apple's fault, they could support this but don't, that said there is a work around.

You have mentioned a few times that Pro's want these all in one's, if installing an app is overwhelming, I don't think they are very pro like.

I'm afraid I'm not following your logic on how sub-$1K shoppers are potential 27" iMac shoppers.
Straight up, Apple is at serious risk of losing their 27" iMac user base, that's real in both actual dollars and unit sales, not to mention actual diehard, long-term customers. That they've gone into the 2023 holiday shopping quarter with zero larger-than-24" AIO offerings is a decision that they and their 27" iMac user base (and we shareholders) will have to "live with". We'll all be reading Q1 2024 reports shortly.

Exactly, that's why Apple is not making one, there is no Market.

That app doesn't work with my mini/monitor combo. I tried it almost immediately.

Tell that to Lenovo, HP, Dell and Asus. They're looking at creating every opportunity for a prosperous holiday revenue stream for themselves thanks to copying Steve Jobs genius all-in-one design! :)

Yeah, the low end market, I have already said that apple does not cater to them.

But there will be no [insert random Apple product]. Apple have said this.

As if there isn't an actual verifiable history of Apple having said "xyz will never happen", only for it to happen a year or two further down the road.

Customers are customers and revenue is revenue. The PC makers are stealing Tim's lunch.
This is a good thing for Apple since Mac sales make up over 50% of the profits compared to the rest of the industry combined, the same goes for smart phones. If Apple had 100% of the Market, the DOJ would break up the company. It is very smart of Apple not to cater to the low budget customers.

It works for me with my M1 Mini

Edit: For the M1 Mini this can only be done using the USB C port for your display.
I think the monitor has a great deal to do with the problem. It doesn't do anything at all for me.

I'm trying Soundsource, we'll see. It works more like Windows handles it, not by controlling the monitor volume itself, but by controlling the output over HDMI. It requires an extension, so it weakens security. :( I suspect it's going to work. (when I get done with my day job. <g>)

Edit: ahh, that somewhat makes sense though CEC is supposed to work over HDMI -- oh well, I'm using an HDMI 4K KVM, so it'll cost money to use that!

I have been watching PC's mentioned anywhere on the web. Most desktop setups use wider than 27" and Panorama curved plus multiple screens. My son's keyboard w his PC lites up like a Christmas tree, even the Drive/storage boxes. I still have two 27" iMacs: 17,1 and 19,1. I look at the 24" iMacs and wonder what designers are happy w them after seeing their friends PC desktop setups. It seems such inconsiderate backward thinking. JMHO

I am really curious as to the market for a windows all-in-one, which I feel somehow manages to fail at copying both the form and the essence of the iMac.

I covered YoY marketshare growth of the top 5 desktop computer makers back in post #334 and made particular note of #2 HP's 6 AIO offerings...

<<
#2 desktop maker, HP, which saw the largest (and only positive) YoY growth in the above data of 6.4%, and is now in the hunt for taking the the #1 spot from Lenovo, offers no-less than 6 "AIO iMac knock-off" (chin and all! LOL) desktop choices (not including configuration variations!) in 6 different sizes...21", 23", 24", 27", 32" and 34".

All of the biggie manufacturers sell multiple models of AiO, so they must sell.

They work great as family computers and households not on the bleeding edge of tech. And some of us high tech people like AiO's for their ease of use and no worrying about cables and such. For Apple's AiO, they have darn good monitors and no worry about incompatibilities, that's why I have a 27" iMac -- even though I have other discrete component computers (faster too) available.
