Obviously Apple are abusing their loyal customers here. The normal way of tech is that specs increase every few years because for the same BOM better specs are possible.

.

I'm a loyal customer who always bought 32gb. apple didn't abuse me they rewarded me. This time for the same price i got 64gb

What's more annoying is how much money they make for the different storage. I think there was a thread where someone found the price differences. Thank god apple doesn't make features as the pricing tier. What if touch ID was only offered on the 128G?

If they did that they'd ruin the company. Experience is everything. A big part of this is choice ie customer doesn't get confused, buying decision is easy and doesn't leave them with remorse.

They keept the 16gb to force people buy the next storage.

If they upgraded to 32gb as default a lot of people would buy 32 instead of 64 and pay 100$ more.

Same thing with ios 8 on ipad 2 and iphone 4s!
They don't let you downgrade to have a good functional device without lag and you are forced to keep the device as it is or buy a new one!

And yes, i agree that Apple has become a greedy company! I have a rMBP that died after 1 year of normal use and good care! Thanks God i bought Apple Care!

It's not normal that a 3000$ product to die after one year, or to have a bad screen, or to make strange HDD noise and the list can continue ...

Sorry for my bad english! It's not my primary language!

I would like to think that Steve Jobs would be rolling in his grave if that happened. Apple already 'holds back' design and software upgrades.

I have 16gb iPhone. I'm power user. I do a lot of stuff with my phone.

I have no issues having huge music library and play movies and videos on my 16gb iPhone. Those files take absolutely 0gb of space. We aren't living in 2007 anymore are we? You can stream and store stuff to cloud services without any kind of hassle.

In case you can't access the internet you can just create offline playlists in Spotify and store movies and videos to your device temporarily. Also, you should have unlimited data plan. Seriously, who doesn't have unlimited data plan in 2014?

I have 52 installed apps + pre installed apps. (Not a single game because I don't find mobile gaming fun or entertaining at all.)
I have a huge music library (using Spotify of course).
I can watch any video or movie when ever I want to using streaming services and cloud storage. Not a big deal.
I take photos and videos with my iPhone. Those doesn't take a huge amount of space anyways. (Note that I'm not a huge iPhone photographer. I have many photos and videos but not thousands of them like some do.)

etc.

This is how I survive perfectly with my 16gb iPhone 6.

I have used 6,5gb of storage and I have 5,7gb still free. If I had the 64gb model I would have a huge amount of storage completely unused which doesn't make sense if you ask me.

I'm just pointing out that 16gb is plenty of space if you can manage it. But get just as much storage as you personally feel comfortable with. I have nothing against that.

It's just pointless to say that 16gb is useless or Apple is screwing customers with 16gb models. It's your choice.

I was banking on a 32 GB storage but more than pleased I got value for my money with the 64GB Air 2; less would'nt have been sufficient, not sure how I managed 16GB on my ex companion iPad 3.

Also 64GB 6+ is a no brainer , I did'nt get screwed but am sure last yr's 32GB Air buyers beg to differ seeing they paid more for less

It's also recently been discovered that apple has used a cheaper form of storage in the 64 and 128 gb phones. Apparently it's causing lock ups and crashing for some. Pretty awful. I have no idea if the issues I am having with my 6 plus are software, hardware, or both.

Looks like it backfired for using cheap chips.

I consider the 16gb version "The iCloud" version. It's for people who would rather save $100 and keep all their content in iCloud. Makes sense to me.

I want as much storage as possible so I'm very happy with 128gb.

Hard to tell if this is snark or an extreme example of fanboi acrobatics.

No. It's common sense. Unlimited data plan is just slightly more expensive compared limited ones that at least for me it makes absolutely no sense to not to get unlimited data plan.

PS. This most likely depends on where you live. But I'm talking about my personal experience.

Doesn't surprise me...

Uh, plenty of people don't even have the option for unlimited.

Do you live in the US? Because in the US the telecoms no longer offer unlimited data plans. It's possible but tricky to get a grandfathered plan, and once in a while there's a loophole for the lucky few who learn about it, but otherwise they cap your ass.

Also note that while Apple reap greater short term profits, iOS is now more fragmented due to the difficulty of upgrading to iOS 8 on a 16GB device. Frustration sets in when people cannot upgrade their old iPhones despite Settings alerting them to its availability. 60 fps HD video fills up their devices faster than the old video. Apps are larger today. People send more and larger attachments in messages and email today. Details like these are the difference between a good customer experience and an insanely great one.

I'm using a 16gb ip5 atm and have no issue. With iTunes match and the few apps I use I still have 8.7gb free.

The key is don't keep pointless years worth of crap on your phone. Yes my iPad mini 3 is the 64gb version. That is what I use for work and consumption so the extra space is handy but I'm still way below 20gb full on that too.

Not everyone needs the extra space.

I have to laugh at everyone saying to just use iCloud. Do you guys think everyone has unlimited data plans?

My first Power Mac had 128MB RAM. Does that mean Apple are insanely generous when they slap 4GB RAM into a base 2014 Mini? Of course not, because 128MB RAM back then was far more expensive than 4GB of RAM is today.

One thing about iCloud is that its not the same as having on board storage. I can't play an app from the cloud, and even if I did have unlimited data I'd need a stupid fast speed (higher than what the iPhone can currently handle) to use certain apps that have no tolerance for latency and slow connection speed. I don't really use iCloud, its just online storage, its not like plugging in an external hard drive. I know tons of people that had to delete essentially all the contents of their 16GB iPhone's just to instal iOS 8....I even had to clear allot of space on my 32GB iPhone 5c. 16GB's is nothing for many but its still useful for Business and Education use like others have said...although I'm still wondering why the heck anyone would use the iPhone for education....seams like a recipe for disaster with high schoolers or any aged kids really...Most businesses that I know that want people to have a smartphone don't issue phones anymore, they simply have an approved list of devices and a stipend to pay for the subsidized device...even some police agencies do this with service weapons, vests, uniforms and gear instead of trying to maintain a fleet of something they simply forward that money to the individual to maintain it themselves. Not everyone has unlimited data. Not everyone wants to put everything they own in the cloud.

I fail to see how telling people what storage configurations you offer and their corresponding prices, then selling those to customers who know exactly what they are buying is "screwing" any customers.

If Apple told customers a device would be 32GB for 649 dollars and they bought it and discovered it was really a 16GB device, THAT would be "screwing" the customer.

Want more storage? Buy more storage.
