All these rumors and leaks are just part of Apple's marketing strategy. They never interfere or harm anything and are only needed to stir up the interest of buyers in new releases. This is one of the best ways to get the owner to throw away a one-year-old and practically new smartphone and buy a new one. Rumors and leaks creating an atmosphere of anticipation before new releases are the best way to do this.

So it is not surprising that the "agent" was not paid anything. What is really surprising - that he still did not get why he was not paid :)

Sounds like some detective work. But, what is Apple going to do with Jon Processor?

This is like Hitman stuff. Apple needs it's own Law Enforcement team and hire some detectives.
They have both, including former NSA staff. The amount of money in play means they can’t afford to mess around. The Loss Prevention team are a serious bunch.

I would say the move to ARM for all Macs, including the Mac Pro, was not predictable. When Gurman leaked it one month before WWDC, most people said it would be just for the MBA. The iPhone X was not predictable (everyone guessed a different approach). Nor the Magic Keyboard for iPad. AirPods. iPhone Mini. Etc.
true. I would not own an 16'' i9 MBP if the leaking would have worked.

As I was reading this there was a video playing in the background
At the exact moment
As I was reading this
I heard I don’t care right you got the biggest snitch who happens to be a bossHe is on his snitch so you are censored idiots how do you not put that censored together how

When you get caught, and then turned, you become less than a rat, even less than a cockroach.

No surprise Apple treated him like garbage, he's lucky he didn't go bankrupt or put in jail

There's more to this story than what is covered in the article. Yes, I'm about to link to a Jon Prosser video, but if it's true then the truth is more convoluted and neither party is exactly innocent nor a victim.

It's amazing to see what extend Apple will go to protect it's products from being leaked! I would love to see their budget for "security"...
Apparently not much since people will do it for free without any guarantees of payment. People need to realize that for profit institutions aren't your friends.

If security was not there, the original iphone would not have caught everybody with their pants around their angles.
And why should Apple pay money to a snitch who snitched on his own community.
If you reread this, likely Apple would not pay him, he got founded out by the leaking community and sold this article to the bloggers for money.

Corporate espionage is big business. Whatever his motivations were, good for him. Even though a poster above said, for profit institutions aren't your friend, maybe some people though have scruples.

For more than a year, a member of the iPhone leaks and jailbreaking community was actually serving as a "double agent" for Apple by secretly providing the company with information about other leakers, according to Motherboard.

The report claims that Andrey Shumeyko, who was known as "YRH04E" online, advertised internal Apple information and stolen devices for sale on platforms like Twitter and Discord. However, unbeknownst to other members of the community, the report adds that he was secretly providing Apple's Global Security team with information that could help the company crack down on leaks and the individuals responsible for them.

In May 2020, after a pre-release version of iOS 14 was leaked online, the report claims Shumeyko provided Apple with information about an individual who allegedly helped "orchestrate" the leak by purchasing a stolen iPhone 11. The prototype device was allegedly loaded with an early development build of iOS 14 intended for internal use by Apple employees, prior to the software being announced at WWDC in June 2020.

Shumeyko added that, in the summer of 2020, he informed Apple that he had been in contact with an Apple employee in Germany who worked on Apple Maps. The employee was allegedly offering to sell access to an internal Apple account used to access corporate emails and other internal materials on Apple's intraweb. Shumeyko said that he kept in touch with the employee and later learned that he had been fired by Apple.

Shumeyko said that by serving as an informant for Apple, he hoped he would be able to redeem himself for being a former participant in the iPhone leaks community, and he also hoped there would be a financial incentive for his cooperation. Shumeyko said he repeatedly asked if it would be possible for him to be paid for his information, but Apple was apparently noncommittal, and he is now speaking out after feeling taken advantage of.

"I just wanted to be heard for once, and the story I tell to be truthful," Shumeyko said, according to the report, adding that he does not care what anyone will think of him now that his role as a "double agent" has been revealed.

Is this really a surprise?

There are no words for how dumb this guy is. He “doesn’t care” what people think of him. (He doesn’t YET, maybe, but the Internet will do its Interneting, and he is gonna care, real soon). And he’s whining because Apple wouldn’t pay for alleged hot info he gave them for free. Poor, poor child. 🤷🏻‍♀️

and, of course, crickets.

Unless the story was that Prosser was the one paying. Then the story would be everywhere. Because Prosser is a douche that always gets everything wrong or only reports what other people have already said.
But did you read the vice article below? This is not Prosser.

I called the move to Mac going to ARM like 5+ years ago. The X wasn’t exactly predictable but also was because otherwise they would be left in the dust— just like where they’re about to be with iPhone camera zoom. Mini has also been talked about since they dropped the SE. I think you must not see the obvious— apple is rarely first so it’s not hard to see what’s coming. iPhone 13= shrinking the notch. talked about since there was a notch. No big improvements expected. 120 hz screen which has been out for years.

I did not see iPad magic keyboard because I said “ who is spending half an iPad Pro on a keyboard?”

The surprise would be if Siri didn’t suck. Google assistant can do more without an internet connection lol. This from someone in an iPhone only family, iPad Air, AirPods gen2, AirPods Pro, PowerBeats Pro, and we both have Apple Watches. Apple COULD do much much more but drags changes along just enough to make you consider upgrading instead of drastic changes.

So... why no mention that it was a 9to5mac writer that did it, and why no mention that he is apparently still employed there? It is actually illegal, so why are those relevant details buried?
