Shumeyko said that by serving as an informant for Apple, he hoped he would be able to redeem himself for being a former participant in the iPhone leaks community, and he also hoped there would be a financial incentive for his cooperation. Shumeyko said he repeatedly asked if it would be possible for him to be paid for his information, but Apple was apparently noncommittal, and he is now speaking out after feeling taken advantage of.
Lol this makes the whole article.

Good for Apple! I've been an Apple FanBoy since the first Macintosh, leakers provide too much info on products in recent years spoiling the fun of new product release excitement.

Pretty sneaky on Apple's part if the story is true.

Is it? A dude contacts them out of the blue and voluntarily gives them the name of a leaker, they fire the leaker, as any company would. The dude later cries because they didn't pay him money for volunteering the info.

So he was a leaker, then he sold out some other leakers, then sold out Apple itself. Sounds like a real gem of a human being.

Sounds like some detective work. But, what is Apple going to do with Jon Processor?

This is like Hitman stuff. Apple needs it's own Law Enforcement team and hire some detectives.
Apple is going to hire him as part of the public relations MacRumors initiative. Apple did not like all the bad press they had been seeing from so many on MacRumors and decided that Prosser was the best man for the job, in order to provide the insider scoop on the MacRumors Forum.

Not a fan of this shady, back-alley maneuvering. Customers expect better from Apple.
This statement doesn't make sense. Apple used a shady person to get info from other shady people. This is brilliant. This is exactly how law enforcement catches their bad guys. Good work I say.

Now if there was agreement from Apple to take care of this person, that is different. But, if this person just expected a reward for doing the right thing, that just sums up what's wrong with this world. People don't stuff because it's right thing. They only do stuff because their is money involved. Yeah, I get that Apple could also do the right thing with crazy money they and reward this person. But, he is whining about not getting compensated. Again, I don't know the details of their deal here. So, I definitely could be wrong.

Thing is... The FruitCompany has its own fake leakers in place (Gurman) and they dole out little authorized tidbits of future info to keep the rumor mill, public interest and press wheels always churning.
Doubling down on "leakers" is rediculous when the primary leaker is FruitCo Inc itself.

In other news, Shumeyko has a starring role in the next Jason Bourne film. ;)

Yeah, it seems crazy until you read this thread and realize how many people managed to turn this into an anti-Apple cause. Nobody seems to be making this guy into a hero, but then nobody is going to remember him either way. He’s succeeding in giving Apple bad PR for a day because there’s a ready army of drones so fixated on trying to attack the company that they don’t even seem aware that this story pretty much doesn’t involve Apple at all. Best I can tell, Apple reacted about the same way they do when I report a bug in Mail.

This whole event seems to have taken place in this guy’s head.
It’s amazing how few people actually read the articles which just goes to show how effective a misleading clickbait title can be.

Recent CSAM thing suddenly reminds me this:
What if Apple’s AI is so advanced, AI leaks internal stuff to the internet without people realising? That would be very sci-fi and exciting.
We haven’t been there yet, so people still needs to perform the leak. Then, when machine leaks stuff…

Guess who's Gurman's secret agent? He is surprisingly accurate every time.
