The speed of your connection is irrelevant when the server you're trying to download from is being stressed by a load of other people and has limited bandwidth to serve your request.
The download is acting strange for sure, it's gotten suck around 438 MB several times, forcing me to cancel and hit update again. In fact, this entire release has been strange starting with the pulled Public Beta.

Strange, the 2.45 GB download took 2 minutes on my connection, which is about the same speed.
You don't need to cancel and hit update again. Mine got stuck at 122mb and again at a few other places. Just let it be. It will download.
Now we know why they pulled it yesterday, since the people who managed to download the beta reported no new wallpapers. Finally an explanation!

If you're talking about the "El Capitan 2" wallpaper, that's not new in this build.
What new wallpaper?!!! If you refer to the blueish Half Dome it was part of Beta 6 already...
Yeah - I installed PB 5 yesterday and didn't find a new wallpaper. Since most of them are boring anyway, maybe I overlooked one...
No!! Although, being serious for a minute, I opened Safari a few times and shut it immediately and so far, so good.

They should reconsider the decision; it's really annoying to hate to press Alt every time I need to maximise a window; who needs fullscreen? It's only useful for videos and few other things, they can use the Alt shortcut for those things instead.
