Sure - I think so too. But in terms of all the beta releases, they could still be related to APFS

VMWare Fusion 8.5.5 (latest release) freezes when attempting to resume/start VM. This wasn't the problem with earlier betas.

That is a LOT of betas! When I was in the beta tester program for 2014-2016, I don't remember seeing more than 5 versions of an update before the official roll-out.

They have issues getting three finger drag to work properly with their new mbp. Another public release without a fix would cause numerous of users to return their device.
