Correct it was. I am wondering what wifi issue as well if not KRACK.

Hmm, Odd that a frame drop in the 3D touch menu would be higher priority than a calculator that doesn't calculate correctly effectively rendering it useless by all accords. But hey, users can 3D touch the calculator icon and it open smoother now! Hope no one actually tries to use it to get correct totals for anything though.
Potentially that 3D Touch is systemwide and gets more use for more variety of purposes. Or that the fix for that was isolated enough to not be of much risk. Hard to say without knowing what's really going on on the inside. Just potential possibilities basically.

You say that it’s low priority. Why change and break something if it doesn’t matter in the first place. To me it sounds pretty logic.
Because that's not how things work out often enough? They very well didn't have to go in to change something specific in the calculator to break something there. A change elsewhere or an updated library of some sort or something else of that nature could have caused some unintended consequences elsewhere.

Thank god 11.1 is in the books, fingers crossed 11.2 has AirPlay 2 and Apple PAY Cash. And the first 11.2 beta will be out in 7-10 days from today.

Oh, shut up. If you are so disappointed with Apple then go buy an Android phone and a Windows computer.

Then, you can leave these forums and it will be one less seat full in the “Apple is Doomed” peanut gallery.

Sorry I obviously hit a wrong button here... I'm actually a long time happy Apple user using macs, ipads and iPhone. And no I'm not even considering switching to Andoid. I am however just very disappointed about Apples approach to releasing iOS 11. Just removing features (force touch app switcher on my iPhone, inability to remove all todays notificatons at once) and releasing an OS to the public way before all critical bugs have been ironed out. I actually downgraded my 6s+ back to 10.3.3 right in time, and man that sure felt (and still feels) like a huge upgrade. And that's just not the way it's supposed to be. Apple is a premium brand with premium products and should not release software that does not meet those standards. So creating a half-finished iOS release that has a worse user experience than the previous version for most of your install base and forcing that update upon your users is just ugly.

With the announcement of the X phone and the iPad iOS overhaul (which is an immense improvement by the way) they've put themselves in a very challenging position with iOS trying to facilitate many different devices and interaction patterns in a single operating system which they obviously had a hard time to get right the first time.

By the way, it's not just iOS, also High Sierra has its trouble. Many of my colleagues that have already upgraded are experiencing system crashes multiple times a day. That's unacceptable when using these machines in your profession.

So forgive me that I'm on the edge of losing faith in Apple's software quality, but it's not entirely without reasons... and yes that's why I get a bit cynical when reading on new Emoji as one of the key elements of 11.1. I don't want this kids stuff, i just want a phone that works as well as it did before.

So while the whole iPhone user population is waiting for speed and battery life .... what is Apple doing: create an 11.1 update whose most notewhorthy item is a bunch of new emoji ... Apple lost their way now they ran out of whatever guidance and visions Steve left behind. iPhone X marks the end of the iPhone/iOS era.

You win. Funniest post of the day. Congratulations!

So I had downloaded the iOS 11.1 beta 4 IPSW and updated through iTunes. Now I installed the iOS 11 beta profile and trying to update to beta 5 but it keeps saying software up to date.

Any ideas why?

It’s clearly an animation issue. What’s broken is that the calculator app waits for the animation to finish and the input is not updated. I don’t believe it to be super hard to fix. Of course, I don’t know because I have no access to the code but that’s my guess. The point of my post was, in case it’s not clear: is not a very nasty bug but it’s annoying. I reported it in the first iOS 11 beta and that’s what I can do. It’s boring to read people here with the “Apple is doomed and Steve wouldn’t have allowed this” mentality, that wasn’t the spirit of my post.

I was wondering how long it would take for this type of foolishness to rear its ugly head - didn't have long to wait
Rather than creating a post that only complains about someone complaining and doesn't contain any substance, would you care to take the time and explain why you disagree? I'm curious about your point of view.

Yeah, they should just rename it to EmojiOS at this point. Though if you think about it, maybe that’s what the i in iOS even means!

Ha,ha

Good one...

Someone please go to the calculator app and quickly type

1+2+3+4+5...and tell me what number you get.

This app has been broken since iOS 11.

42. And your point is? If Apple says 1+2+3+4+5 = 42, then it equals 42. Your inquiry is Fake News. Move on, nothing to see here. 1+2+3+4+5 equals 42.

iOS 11.1 is smoother and has better battery life. The emoji is just the thing normal people will care about.

Thats odd :)
I don’t have a paid dev account since a couple of years, i only installed public beta profile on ipad
35 minutes ago it showed up

Yeah that’s definitely weird. Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones that got it early! Still not showing up for me yet.

On the road with just iOS 11, and the bugs in Files, iWork for iOS, and general file cloud syncing was at dangerous, blocking workflow levels last night. It’s the first time I’ve ever thought of switching back to Microsoft ecosystem because while there are bugs there too—bugs exist everywhere—I’ve never encountered the show-stopper, “this crap just doesn’t work and Apple ships it anyway” type bugs.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no hurry to leave the awesome Apple ecosystem. But if they are going to sell the iPad and iOS as productivity devices, they need significantly higher quality standards.

The bottom line is this: Apple would never tolerate this shoddy work in their hardware, but they allow it in their software. These tools are evolving to become medical devices, safety devices, digital hubs for our home, and of course, productivity. Crappy software with obvious and glaring bugs which results in the software just not working outside of narrow user flow paths is a ticket to obscurity.

How is the calculator being inaccurate not a priority? They should disable it entirely until they can get it fixed! I’ve been getting different numbers every time.
Perhaps between not as many people using the calculator often and/or the majority of those don't tap fast enough to encounter the issue it can make it of lower priority compared to some other things. Or the change causing it all is elsewhere that is making the fix more complex and risky so far. Again, potential possibilities.

The way the article wrote it is misleading. There were no new emojis since Beta 2.
[doublepost=1508780974][/doublepost]
Apple Pay Cash might already be in iOS 11.1, just that Apple is unlikely to trigger the switch in beta builds and I do not know if the switch will be triggered on the public release of iOS 11.1 as well. As for iCloud iMessages, that might be in iOS 11.2 instead.

thanks for the clarification!!:)

Am I the only one supremely uninterested in the proliferation of all these emoji ? Is half the demographic here under age 15 or what?
Aside from a few who express some sort of often misplaced angst about emojis, the vast majority of people here are focusing on other things when it comes to updates.
