My feedback for beta 5 on the -609 errors when opening folders from the dock has gone to 'More than 10 similar reports' and 'Potential fix identified - in macOs 12.5'.

So hopefully it will all be sorted in b6.

Same here! That's good news!

I've had to resort to putting most apps I use into Full Screen mode and then just swipe thru them. And even then, with Safari open in Full Screen, I get an error opening the link to your post from my Email (Spark, not the Mail app). This is all VERY troubling as things have been shaping up for a solid 12.5 release. The prior beta ran excellent for me.

Again, this error comes up when opening a link in an Email.
Well yeah, I did go for macOS 13 beta 3 instead now.

For me, when this happens, Mission Control doesn't work at all either from the Trackpad gesture or from the Icon itself I've got in the dock. Rebooting doesn't fix it. In fact, Mission Control hasn't worked at all for me since updating to build 21G5063a.

Apple today seeded the fifth beta of an upcoming macOS Monterey 12.5 update to developers for testing purposes, with the new update coming over a week after the release of the fourth macOS Monterey 12.5 beta.

macOS-Monterey-2.jpg

Registered developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center and after the appropriate profile is installed, betas will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences.

There's no word yet on what new features or changes might be included in macOS Monterey 12.5, and nothing new was found in the first four betas. It's likely this update focuses on bug fixes and other minor improvements to the operating system.

macOS Monterey 12.5 could be one of the final updates to the macOS Monterey website as Apple is now shifting its focus to macOS Ventura, the next-generation Mac operating system coming this fall.

Everything is broken. Everything! I can't even open trash without restarting finder.

I was staying away from Ventura beta to avoid bugs, now I am thinking to upgrade from Monterey to Ventura to avoid bugs.

Beta 4 was quite stable and good.

In my experience Beta 5 is better regarded as an alpha release than as a beta. It breaks a lot of functionality and changes many things.

1) Automator no longer functions at all.
2) Minimizing apps creates problems in restoring. You either have to select creating a new ... or show all windows, or close and reopen the app to restore it.
3) But the quit option on apps accessed via right clicking the app icon in the doc and selecting quit doesn't function. Instead you have to select the app in the doc then go to the app menu at the top to select quit.
4) On minimizing, clicking on the doc icon no longer restores the last instance. It no longer does anything obvious. Instead you have to right click and select an instance to go to (or show windows ... as noted above).
5) cmd-H (hide) works correctly and restores as expected - use that instead of minimize.
6) If you have a draft email open and pending; and then open Safari, find a website you wish to email to others, and select the share icon and email - it will shift to the already opened draft email rather than creating a new instance of a draft email filled in with the information about the share. This no doubt impacts other share functions as well.
7) Intermittently clicking on doc icons results in an error as previously noted saying the application doesn't exist. Try again - then it works.
8) Memory usage is extreme and a serious problem.
9) AppleScript fails. This is likely involved with Automator failing.
10) Clicking on finder in the doc now opens a recent list of stuff rather than the system folders and such. To reach those you now have to scroll to the top to select Open a New Finder Window to get there.

This is not a good beta. Avoid it. Properly this is an alpha release that shouldn't in my opinion have ever been released for beta test. The errors and flaws are way too obvious.

Also - in beta 5, Universal Control continues to be unreliable. When it works it is great!

When it fails, it is strange. There is no way for the user to determine why it failed or how to remedy that. The second device simply disappears from availability. And quite often the third button (Automatically reconnect ...) under the Universal Control button becomes unchecked on its own.

Sometimes rebooting both devices fixes the problem. Sometimes that unticks the third option. Sometimes it doesn't work, but then at some variable time later it magically works.

Sometimes it misrecognizes the position of the second device and places it on the wrong side.

And sometimes it puts it in the right place but forgets that as a second monitor that the monitor position had been configured differently. And it then makes it parallel. When that happens with an iPad adjacent to a MacBook Pro, the two hot corners on that side lose functionality. Shifting the position of the iPad as a second monitor to slightly below or above the MacBook will return one of the two corners functionality

When the two displays are parallel, adjusting the left edge of full screen apps can be difficult. Better is to place the iPad somewhat lower so that there is a "safe" zone at the top where the mouse will run into the edge of the display and NOT move to the second device.

This is the same behavior as beta 4.

Thank you for the suggestions on this thread. Having experienced the same range of issues with b5 I too have re-installed b4 while we await a working update. Not being a Developer I'll need to wait till we get a public beta of Ventura.

Interesting.... update.

In Beta 5, if you change the method for minimization, the problem with not being able to reopen apps goes away.

Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar

Ticking minimize windows into application icon - there are severe problems when you click the yellow minimize dot.

Unticking that - then when an app is minimized it goes to the right side of the dock. Clicking on the minimized app in the doc then properly restores on screen.

iBungie - how did you revert to b4? I seem to have missed that class.

I've been using DownloadFullInstaller to get the .pkg file of the installer when needed. Pulls from the same Apple Servers @MrMacintoshBlog gets theirs.

Once you've got the .pkg file downloaded, run that and it puts the OS Installer (you'll most likely be more familiar with) in the Applications folder where you can just install over your current OS. Be forewarned, though, that this isn't always perfect. It'll keep your files and stuff in tact, and just replace the data/OS folders with the 12.4 data, but I've done this before and actually been in a worse state. Making a USB installer would probably be best from my experience.

I am reluctant to downgrade back to b4, I am hopeful that we'll either see a 12.5 final or another beta this week

I did upgrade to macOS 13 b3 and that was awful also.
What happening?

Going back to 12.4 until this is sorted out.

Regarding 13 b3 it’s strange that it is so awful as iOS 16 b3 is smooth
