Because Emoji have become ubiquitous, for better or worse, in the rest of the world.
And why shouldn't they be more representative of people if they can be? The ability to add modifiers doesn't even apply to every Emoji. Many of the standard yellow emoji aren't even able to have skin-tone modifiers.

If they really NEED to be representative of everyone then why aren't they all just skulls?

keyboard locking up when using word lookup function!

I was having the right-click lookup problem of there being a popup window, but nothing in it. It looks like that's been fixed, and now I see why it might have been broken. It looks a bit different.

The first thing I noticed was how the lag on the notification center is finally gone! At least on my Retina Macbook with an upscale at 1680x1050. Used to lag so hard before.

Other animations as well has really improved, waited for this since the GM Candidates.

Exactly. Think about ages.

Life expectancy: 71 years
Someone 0 - 24 is in the early years in their life (Jan Feb Mar April)
Someone 25 - 49 is in the prime of their life (May June July Aug)
Someone 50 - 71 is in the late years of their life (Sept Oct Nov Dec)

To the OP (not the one I'm replying to), you're telling me someone 17 (late March) is not early in their life?

71 years? Maybe in Moldova! More like 80+ in developed countries.

Yeah, it does look a lot better. Looks like the other animations are smoother too.

Or -- and here's a crazy idea -- they could simply allow multiple skintones, instead of just white.

I must be some kind of genius.

Does anyone know if they are adding a way to sync Faces data across iCloud? Right now this is my biggest complaint. All the pictures show up perfectly on my second computer and iPhone, but the Faces data is only on the original computer.

I really really really want Faces to sync!!

Faces are syncing just fine for me. Note that I am using the beta of iCloud Photo Library on both my iPad and iPhone and I'm (obviously) using the new Photos.app in 10.10.3 beta.

----------

Not only is Photos a pretty major change, it also needs a lot of work. In my limited time testing it, syncing worked very poorly. I would never trust my library to iCloud Photo Library at this point.

The initial sync took a few days for all my devices (laptop, iMac, iPhone and iPad) to "get in sync". But once they did (just a test library, 1700 or so photos and a couple dozen albums, some faces, etc.) numbers of photos, movies and albums matched perfectly across all four devices.

It's impossible to do "limited" testing and then judge how well the syncing works. It takes time.

Preview still extremely problematic.

Progress, I suppose. Went from an F to a D- to a D+.

They have done something where Preview's CPU usage rails, they catch this now and there's some sort of reset.

Still unacceptable, especially in light that everything worked just fine pre-Yosemite.

Does Preview work for you? Great. Happy for you. You don't need to mention it here. Clearly it doesn't work for others; there's no need for you to chime in.

Are you able to get faces data to sync between two computers? Or just the iOS devices?

The installation time of these weekly updates is a huge deterrent for me. But seeing as the last one pretty much killed Safari I'm hoping this one fixes it again.

I'm sure it works fine for a test library of 1700 photos. But photo libraries tend to be much larger these days, and mine is about 35GB.

I used it for about a week. The numbers were never in sync between iCloud, my Mac, and iOS. It also gave incorrect numbers at every step of the process, including the number of photos remaining to be uploaded. I would never trust it at this point.

Has anyone else had an issue with Flash player update with 4th beta? It won't download beyond 30% for me.

Yes, but I think it's an Adobe issue. You also seem to get that problem on windows.

Preview still has got some major flaws. If I write into a pdf and save it 40% of the time I reopen that saved document, the text appears 90 degrees rotated.

Me and my friend now always make bets if it is rotated or isn't.

The 'Shared' tab in Photos appears to have stopped working for me, since updating to this 5th beta. Instead of actually showing me my shared albums, it shows me the 'Start Sharing' splash screen which, I presume, is what new users see. All the preferences seem fine, although there a constant 'Updating...' message in the settings window. Hoping this isn't a glitch caused by the update itself!

It keeps switching between this and 'Connecting to Library'.

Well you just made me feel very young. Thanks! :D

How is Safari on this build? I remember it was rather unresponsive on previous beta.

Follow frasier spiers on Twitter - he's been documenting this process with a photo library containing 35,000 photos and over 300 GB.

If I recall, it took 16 days, but at the end all his devices had the same exact number of photos and albums

Again, you simply can't do quick and dirty testing of this feature.
