The Find my AirPods is great, now I'm not so annoyed that they removed the app. Maybe the rumours for 10.3 could land with 11.

Can anyone check if the AirPods can do more actions? (Or do they need a firmware update rather an iOS update?)

This seems like a pretty big deal (from the release notes):

When you update to iOS 10.3, your iOS device will update its file system to Apple File System (APFS). This conversion preserves existing data on your device. However, as with any software update, it is recommended that you create a backup of your device before updating.
Wow! I'll let this beta cycle run its full course, and probably wait a day or two after release before upgrading, but as much as the preceding doesn't sound like it (just want to be super extra careful), I'm really looking forward to APFS.

What a disappointment.
How to create a negative vibe for Apple: Launch a made-up rumour about a new feature in an upcoming OS update and watch the sighs of disappointment flooding in as the OS update is released and doesn't contain this feature.

I don't think that is what happened here (ie, the rumour wasn't completely made-up nor was it launched with malicious intent), but rather an example of how we can set up ourselves for some disappointment by investing (too much) hope into a rumour.

Indeed. But there you go, lesson learnt—let's not hype rumours.

Can someone tell more about new filesystem? How it's compared to present one in terms of security and performance?

Of course the new file system has better security and better performance. The better performance is in doing certain tasks. This is just in a general sense. You'd actually have to do some analysis of the OS and individual software running on the new system, versus the old, to quantify it. Some tasks could conceivably be slower depending on how the software was written. I have not seen any such analysis.

My gut is it won't make that much of a difference on iOS. I think it will make more of a difference, especially in performance, on macOS.

there you go
