My MacBook has been cut from support list sadly. Glad that I made the call to never upgrade it past high Sierra. iTunes is still amazing.

When we compare with Big Sur, did we move two models of MBP or just one? Early 2015 vs late 2013. Was there a 2014 model? If so, they just made two MBP models incompatible.

Compatibility in Big Sur was:
  • MacBook (2015 or later)
  • MacBook Air (2013 or later)
  • MacBook Pro (Late 2013 or later)
  • Mac mini (2014 or later)
  • iMac (2014 or later)
  • iMac Pro (2017 or later)
  • Mac Pro (2013 or later)

Am I right in thinking you can no longer ‘pin’ tabs? That was quite a useful feature. I know you kinda can with the groups, but I don’t like how it automatically adds new tabs to the current tab group when you a new one.

I think even just giving you the option to add a new tab to a current tab group, rather than it being added automatically might help.

Two MBP models. I really hoped my mid-2014 rMBP would get one more year of official support for new Mac OS. Now I have no Macs that officially support Mac OS 12. Will need to make some decisions.

Should be possible as the tabs I had pinned before are still showing as pinned.

I don't use Safari much so those changes aren't so important to me. I did have a play with the tab groups thing, but I don't like the way it shows the tabs and the way it tries to match the background colour to the current website. However, I think it's a neat idea.

I can't find the settings for the new Focus thing (with Do Not Disturb as a submenu) to enable it when watching videos on full screen. It's probably there somewhere. It seems we can set various profiles (for want of a better word) with Do Not Disturb being the default. This could be interesting; moreso on the phone.

I'll have to wait and see what this iMessage sharing with other apps is all about

Look & feel is identical to Big Sur. If this was released as Big Sur 11.6 it wouldn't have been a surprise. My iOS 15 beta is currently failing to install but I suspect that's going to be very similar.
So should we think of Monterey as a more stable Big Sur? Are there less bugs and more things straightened out?

Pin tabs is still available and the pinned tabs I had from Big Sur were preserved by the upgrade.

There are some new system preferences for some of the settings. Pretty cool!

Hi all,

As people are beginning to downloard the Developer Beta of macOS Monterey, I'm curious as to what everybody's impressions are of the new macOS?!

From the Keynote, it seems like it's not that big of a deal. I get the impression that Apple is "running out of ideas" when it comes to new macOS versions. Am I mistaken or expecting too much?

I'm still happily running macOS Mojave on my 2013 Mac Pro.

Is there anywhere to "hover" the cursor in the new Safari toolbar to get the full name/info of your currently open tab? I can do it over background and pinned tabs, but not the one I have open.

Mine were too, but they have now disappeared. I can’t see how you can do it now - dragging them left doesn’t do it, and although ‘Pin tab’ is still in the Window menu, it’s disabled.

eGPU is alive and well in the latest BigSur beta, even includes drivers for the AMD 6900 XT (I'll find out in about an hour if it works on MacOS 12 or not 🙂 )
What time is it now ? Just kidding still awaiting your eGPU test. I just bought Sapphire 6900 Toxic Extreme version and Sonnet 750ex but not showing up on my 2020 iMac. really upset about it. Some said Toxic Extreme use different NAVI version but no idea.

How is your test with eGPU ? Thanks advanced.

It's nothing ground breaking, but the additions are nice. Especially when the Universal Control starts working. But yeah, it's a beta and things might not yet fully work and you might get some crashes.

So far, it looks like a long-standing minor annoyance is fixed in Mail: When I change views (say, from Inbox to Sent and back again), my column width and view settings are staying as I set them for each.

UPDATED 6/10: Well, most of the time, at least.
