I think all you proved is that apple doesn't use release dates for point updates, they release them when they're ready.

This is a normal behaviour. You should try to understand the available trackpad gestures, so that you can avoid the unwanted behaviour. Btw, it has nothing to do with Apple or their trackpads, it can also happen with third party devices like a mobile Microsoft mouse.
No, this is not normal behavior. There's an issue that appeared with the Magic Trackpad update which causes the internal trackpad to get stuck in a drag-select mode. It's really irritating and makes the computer nearly unusable.

The only thing that you can get out of this is that 10.7.0 will likely be released on a Friday.

Here is a scatter plot of the data over time. It shows that the average time between point releases has trended longer over the last few releases. Again, more data that shouldn't be all that surprising.

With all these things to release (presumably) over a short time period, what will be the order?

10.6.5 and then
iTunes 10.1 and then
iOS 4.2?

iOS 4.2 and iTunes 10.1 will most likely be released at the same time. Don't know about 10.6.5 though. I expect that to be released before those two.

Agreed, since 10.6.5 is required for AirPrint functionality.

The trackpad gets stuck in "drag mode" so everything gets selected as you move the cursor. Sometimes even a restart hasn't fixed it for me.
My wife's computer had a similar issue. The mouse would get stuck in drag mode, and single-clicks would be ignored - even from an external mouse. After a bit of checking, we found out that the problem was her battery. It was incredibly swollen, and it was getting to the point that, somehow, it was setting off the trackpad's button. It reached the point where you couldn't even depress the trackpad button. Removing the battery fixed that.

Her computer is an older-style Macbook (before they came out with the button-less trackpads). I believe you're using a Macbook Pro. I'm not sure if something like that could effect you, but it may be worth checking. I've seen a number of swollen batteries on Apple systems.

Macrumors said:
10.6.5 could represent the last point upgrade to Snow Leopard as Apple has already announced Mac OS X 10.7 Lion for delivery in Summer 2011.

Seems that was somewhat debunked...:p

Very unusual move for Apple to be publicly beta testing a future major point release while the prior one is still in the wings unreleased. Even with the iPhone, once a major update (4.2) has been announced, Apple doesn't really release updates other than security updates in-between.

It seems 10.6.6 is gonna be a comparatively minor update, as there're only 80ish days until the Mac App Store. There'll need to be an OS X update to support the App Store, as there're quite a few changes needed to support it on the client side.

OMG! I'm having the same problem, and my battery is swollen too! Neat. Thx.

143 day's since 10.6.4 and counting.

Seems likely they will release 10.6.5, then iTunes 10.1 and finally iOS 4.2.

Busy week or two ahead for Apple.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 10.6.5, iOS 4.2, and iTunes 10.1 all release simultaneously. They seem to be almost interdependent, all three.

10.6.6 will release close to if not simultaneously with the Mac App Store, which I think we might see sooner than 90 days from the keynote, if they feel it's ready. I think we could see it as soon as mid-December. It could of course wait until January though.

There has only ever been one point release during the month of January (10.4.4). Apple seems to like the idea of getting these releases out the door before the holidays (which is why there are quite a few mid-December releases).

I believe that you have to have iTunes 10.1 to install iOS 4.2.

I might be wrong about that, but I believe that has been posted on here and at other sites.

Yeah, I've kinda noticed that trend (though I didn't research the exact numbers). That's why I was figuring on December, unless they just can't get it ready to go.

That's my point exactly. You need iTunes 10.1 to install iOS 4.2, and you need 10.6.5 to install iTunes 10.1 (don't know that for certain, but I think that was also mentioned somewhere). Thus, if they want to release iOS 4.2 on Monday (dunno for sure, but I suspect that's the likely date), then they others would also have to come then. They could string them out, but I don't see the point.

Hm, that explains it. I've noticed this glitch several times and it's good to known it's a known issue.

On a side note, what's Finder version in 10.6.4? I've just installed latest build of 10.6.5 and Finder says 10.6.6.

You can't really draw any conclusions from that.

Why bother? With them killing the XServe it's obvious Apple is well on it's way to being just a toymaker - I pity anyone who actually goes out and buy OS X Lion - what is guaranteed to be the last release of OS X.
