I know, but how does it determine which region I’m on? I know many people who live in DE and work in CH. That must go nuts then? Also I purchased my iPhone at Mediamarkt Germany, so except IP address and GPS, it the signs are more for Germany than for Switzerland (German number, German AppleID, purchased in Germany)

My Apple ID is from the US and so is obviously the billing address so this can be ignored as a factor I guess so it may come down to your actual location. What is your phone region set to?

What people here are avoiding is the real intent of the EU regulations.

Yes the EU is intent of increasing competition and access in markets but the underlying mission is to kneecap foreign companies in the EU.

Europe is not a good environment for entrepreneurship, at every stage you will be hobbled by regulations, unions activism, taxation and such like.

Europe does not have good competition because the big domestic players are both protected and hobbled, they cannot compete with US and even Japanese and Chinese companies on fair terms.

Bottom line this is is also thinly veiled protestionion, we will see this behaviour dramatically ramp up soon in the car industry. China is knocking.
Well, at least our planes don't fall out of the sky with the FAA consistently protecting their corporate backside. They are quite popular even in the US, you know... Because they don't kill people? That's quite a feat considering how hard the US government is fighting to keep its darling alive.

Interesting! So you got the new regs simply by being in the eu?

My ID and my billing is UK, but I live in EU and my phone and operator and stuff is all here. According to you if I would get access to the new regulations in at that situation?

I have my region set to Germany, phone is set to German, phone plan is also from Germany and my AppStore ID is also from Germany but my iCloud ID is US. Maybe they are looking at the the AppStore ID instead of the iCloud ID? but probably a combination of all. In the previous beta it showed "UNKNOWN", it now switched to "DE" without doing anything different

A side effect of the EU DMA could be an increase in tourism. People flocking to the EU to sideload before going back to their respective countries with an iPhone sporting a "European" (I.E. non webkit) browser 😂

I’m tempted to install it but I’m wondering if there are already browsers that support this iOS beta and will use their own web-engine?

I have a Flarum based Internet forum that works great with all mobile browsers on the Android but is buggy with those in iOS and the Flarum devs have consistently tested and confirmed it’s just bugs in WebKit and nothing can be done on their side.

As far as I’ve seen no, no one has released anything publicly yet. Will probably be announced alongside the final release. You know Google has been working on it and just waiting for this day.

Probably by whatever region your Apple ID is registered. It would be too easy if it was just based on the phone’s regional settings, and there must be millions of iPhones that move between countries frequently.

I’ve also heard but not looked into or experimented with, that changing your Apple ID region is not trivial. It affects all your purchases and probably has other limitations, risks, and caveats. And considering this is all to do with the App Store, it makes the most sense.

My region is (at the moment) Germany, as many Apps from Switzerland are available in the German one but not vice versa. And yes, I can agree. I often switch stores when I am abroad and need local apps. The good thing is, once purchased they are still listed under your recently purchased apps.

😂😂😂 Treu. No but good point. What happens to them?

I hope the availability is just based on the GPS location - I don’t want to go through the process of switching Apple IDs just to get access to sideloading (my Apple ID was created in the UK and same for my family - all of us linked via Family Sharing).

it seems like it’s based on your location and/or mobile network. I changed my active number from Switzerland to Germany while being in Germany and now it shows DE as region.

My account, however, has been German the whole time, the iPhone region Italy. And still it showed Switzerland all the time

Wow this is gonna get real complicated real fast. I don't think the rules as Apple has currently decreed them will stick.
