The release notes are not explicit (per the usual), but here are my guesses:

  • :apple:Pay support
  • Yosemite support
  • Bug fixes

iPads announced on October 21st. iOS 8.1 released October 29th.

To be clear, I do not believe we will see any :apple:Pay functionality until the actual release date of 8.1.

don't forget the release of 27" Retina iMacs

Just installed on my 6+ looks okay so far to me. I'll post any major problems I encounter later on. So far LTE/cell service and Touch ID seem to be working. :D

Oh totes. Can’t forget that iOS 8.1 will probably include the Retina iMacs…?

Nope, you lost me. Do you mean like pictures of the Retina iMacs, or… the words “Retina iMacs?” Or that the Retina iMacs will be powered by iOS 8.1?

Has anyone else noticed how weird the phrase ‘Retina iMacs’ is?

Very true. For regular iOS users, iOS 8 seems like a small update with small new features but iOS 8 has become what iOS 7 should have been and maybe Apple didn't have enough time to really finish iOS 8 as they planned.

Think about it, iOS 8 is a little more than 1 week old and already they have planned 3 x.1 updates? The upcoming updates will surely finish what was actually supposed to be iOS 8 to begin with.
But possibly not until that 8.3 update is out (unlike it usually being the case around the time x.1 comes out).

----------

So a .1 update with no knew features ?
But perhaps some new features, ones that just haven't been explicitly publicly specified by Apple.

I apologize if this has been asked/answered about five million times, but, they said you can't downgrade to earlier iOS firmwares. How accurate is this? It seems like you could just DFU + Restore, or is the beta firmware really locked down to where it literally is impossible to downgrade?

You can always downgrade from betas with a dfu restore but you cannot downgrade to 7.1.2 anymore because apple stopped signing it a few days ago.

nice small changes! iBooks icon, camera roll back.. where is apple pay and SMS for iPad though? next beta? i wonder when this is going to be released to the public? october or is it next year like the other releases?

They always say that, and it's never strictly the case. But you can't restore a backup to older version, so you can't keep your data easily if go back unless keep an 8.0 backup.

When you install it checks with Apple to see if the firmware is still being signed, if not it won't let you install it.

It's the case most of the time. Just that after a new update comes out the previous update might still be signed for a bit (could be as short as a few hours or as long as a number of days if not a week or two).

It surprised me how much I miss camera roll!

Apple has adopted firefox & chrome numbering scheme and by the end of the year we'll be at 8.31

Here is a cheat sheet to tell you what devices can restore to what version.

Anything outside of that is going to be from difficult to nearly impossible (restoring back to iOS 7.1.2 is of the latter).

A few questions....

Anyone got it on an A5 device? If so does it show any improvement from 8.0 performance? 7.1 beta 1 showed improvement on the iPhone 4 right from the start.

Also does iPhoto work under 8.1??

i wonder how many betas there will be and if its every 2 weeks..

apple won't say when this is going to be released.. will just show up one day as available for public.
