10.10.2 Chrome Workaround

Here is a workaround to get Chrome and the trackpad happy again until a newer build comes out to fix it.

Step 1: Open up a text editor like textedit (not Word) and paste the following and save it as patch.m (go ahead and save it on your desktop)

Code:
#import <AppKit/AppKit.h>

__attribute((constructor)) void Patch_10_10_2_entry()
{
    NSLog(@"10.10.2 patch loaded");
}

@interface NSTouch ()
- (id)_initWithPreviousTouch:(NSTouch *)touch newPhase:(NSTouchPhase)phase position:(CGPoint)position isResting:(BOOL)isResting force:(double)force;
@end

@implementation NSTouch (Patch_10_10_2)
- (id)_initWithPreviousTouch:(NSTouch *)touch newPhase:(NSTouchPhase)phase position:(CGPoint)position isResting:(BOOL)isResting
{
    return [self _initWithPreviousTouch:touch newPhase:phase position:position isResting:isResting force:0];
}
@end

Step 2: Open up terminal and paste this command (no need for sudo) to compile.

Code:
clang -dynamiclib -framework AppKit ~/Desktop/patch.m -o ~/Desktop/patch.dylib

Step 3: Launch Google Chrome with this compiled patch from terminal.

Code:
env DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=~/Desktop/patch.dylib "/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome"

Some notes: Terminal will remain open in the background. If you quit it, it will close Chrome. You will also need to repeat Step 3 any time you have quit Chrome and want to re-open it. This will not permanently modify anything on your system, as at some point soon this should be fixed by Apple or Google. It just "injects" a patch file into Chrome. That said, run at your own risk, this is taken from Apple dev forums, I did not create the work, merely sharing it.

I've had a couple of issues since installing this latest build....

1) chrome crashes at launch.. Whatever. I'll use safari until that is fixed.

2) bigger issue is that when screen goes to sleep... It will not come back on. I have to hard reset computer to bring it back.

Maybe if you know how to read log, you may see why.

It happens for lot of macbook pro 2010 with GT330m 2-3 years ago. I put my mac several times into sleep and 1-2 times per day I had to reboot. Apple took 6 months to fix the bug. If was something regarding the graphics drivers.

Nothing in the logs. At least, I can't find anything.(yet)
This is not the first time people have sleep/wake issues with their computers, OS X seems to have that issues once in a while, and WIFI problems Urg....

I thought this would have been corrected with the release of 10.10.1 but no luck yet... Notification Center --> Weather --> When there is a snow forecast / chance of snow, there is no snow icon showing up at all. It is just blank.
Also, when you click on any of the locations, the appropriate Weather.com webpage launches. But when you click on the advisory(s), it constantly gives an error page. However, if you directly search for your location on Weather.com and click on the advisory(s), it works just fine.
Does it appear to be fixed yet? Thanks!

I get a snow icon when snow is predicted and everything seems to be working fine in the Notification Center, as to weather.

I continue to get goofy response when trying to connect to my Airport Extreme. In the morning, when I wake my rMBP, I won't see the hard drive I have connected to my Extreme and AirPort Utility won't connect to the Extreme. I have to kick the connection awake by either initiating a Time Machine backup or turning the WiFi on and then back on.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy. I get full WiFi speeds since installing the Extreme on the 5 GHz channel, even in clamshell mode. The 2.4 GHz sucks so I "forgot" it on all my devices.

VLC no longer plays videos.

Seriously.. Apple has gone downhill since Jobs left.

It plays mp4's fine on mine (Mid 2010 iMac).
Screen and computer going to sleep and waking up -- no problems yet.
Wi-Fi -- OK.

The last part is true.

Anyone on the M update? Do you have issues with Chrome with youtube html5 player stuttering? I have no issues with safari and youtube but I do have issues with chrome 39.

I'm hating the Chrome issue... of course I did sign up to download pre-release software. I've been using Firefox Developer Edition and other than it's few bugs, I really like it. Can't wait until it's completely solid. I love it. It may take me from Chrome and this "glitch" is helping to push me that direction.

I found a fix on the the google product forums: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/4wfw2hC9yTY

As the OP said, I can't vouch for this code other than it worked for me. Someone else wrote it.

I have a simple solution! The last couple of days I was struggling with this crappy beta seed too. My solution was to just download the Yosemite installer from the Mac App Store again and to install it over my current system. It worked perfectly for me! Back on 10.10.1 now. I do also have a solution to this automatically install of developer beta's / pre-releases from Apple, which happened to me too. To turn off these beta notifications, go to System Preferences, then click the App Store icon. In the section that says Your computer is set to received pre-release Software Update seeds, click Change. Click Do Not Show Pre-Release Updates. You will no longer receive these notifications.

Jessepost, THANK YOU! I was wondering how to disable that without a clean install.

All those complaining should remember that apple have always said you should not install betas on production machines and only install them on computers you would be willing to wipe and resinstall the system if necessary.

I go a little further than apple for people who only have 1 mac. I tell them to never install a beta!

Ahhhh very good. Thank you for that advice! I guess I know what Im doing this weekend. I wanted to do a clean install for a while now but I guess this should push that along.

I may also have to do the same at some point. I upgraded from Mavericks to several Public Betas and then to the final Release. Something may be getting in the way, as I have experienced some issues with Time Machine stalling, backup burning CPU, slow response of the GUI, etc.

Sometimes, it's the best thing to do.

This is the first beta release I have experienced that has broken so many 3rd Party Apps.

Yesterdays Seed

I have not loaded yesterdays new seed. Does anyone know if it fixes the trackpad driver and google chrome issue?

What does apple use for QA methods? Because since my mbpr 2013 automatically updated to 10.10.1 the other day, I've been getting random reboots, GPU kernal panics and boot up crashes. I wish I had time machined it....... :mad: And don't ask me about the WIFi issues.. :fuming:

Never had any off these issues in previous os's on any of my macs before so not upgrading the Mac mini 2012 yet. Really :mad:

I think need a drink!

This is the beginning of the end of a good run for Apple. Apple Watch will be that final nail in the coffin.
