So if you are using Yosemite, is it worth the trip? ...

NO.

10.10.0 - Seriously broke Time Machine, especially if you use it for external disks

10.10.1 - Didn't fix this; broke two of my three emails (Yahoo and Gmail)

There are still apps, such as Toast that don't work reliably in Yosemite.

It seems your MBP is overheating and forcefully shutting down.
It could be due to a process burning CPU, and the MBP fans not being able to keep it cool enough when closed.

I would suggest a clean install. If it still fails, then try using your MBP with the display opened.

Look for an app that logs the temperature of your Mac. It may help troubleshoot the issue.

Ahhhh very good. Thank you for that advice! I guess I know what Im doing this weekend. I wanted to do a clean install for a while now but I guess this should push that along.

Still having wifi problems and this icon is bugged:

I had sound Icon not properly reflecting settings or greyed out in the Beta versions of Yosemite (I had to go to System Preferences and toggle sound on/off there to reset).

There is an old saying.. If its not broke don't fix it. I have IOS6 on an Iphone 4s, I make calls, receive and send tx and brows the net, it just works. I have Mavericks on a MBP 2014, and although the obsession with Apple to make everything thinner and the pain in the arse with adaptors, no drivers from 3rd party suppliers etc etc, Mavericks is stable.

What you get with Yosemite I don't miss because I have never used it. People who are early adopters get what you get, bugs, crashes, crap signal strength and hair loss. Just wait before you have to have the latest thing, it's called being a grown up.

I fully agree with you. But trust me Yosemite is awesome. Specially the messages and taking phone call feature. I use it all the time. I will suggest if you use mac as your primary machine and if you do get calls more often, it will be worthwhile to check it out :)

I can't believe people are able to spend so much time messing about with a new OS. I need rock solid reliability. The every year osx update model is crazy.

Agreed.

Apple stuff should "just work". That's what my parents/sister (non-techies) are willing to pay for.
This WIFI-gate is the way to alienate such typical Apple customers and kill the brand.

They need to actually fix it this time. No more spinning beach balls for everything I do, no more Safari just hanging there and not connecting to a website, better RAM usage, and a start up that doesn't take 3 freaking minutes!

Apple better get on the stick or people are going to start thinking they are no better than Microsoft.
It's a closed ecosystem so there really is no excuse for this

So you suggest that LIKE YOU, he should just turn around and bend over? After spending PREMIUM price for supposedly "premium" product? He probably bought it because of this claims and doesn't want windows BS....yet he got just that. Mc OS Vista.
Real world doesn't work like this. You don't just buy some product, pay premium price for it and then just throw it away if you found out you got screwed.
Here is an idea....maybe instead of paying insane amount of $ for some beats company or some burberry chick....try to hire some engineers.....you know, the ones that actually make products. If anyone actually read some interview from apple employees he would realize that there is insane small team of engineers working on projects. Sure they are probably god like, but time constraints are insane and they are bound to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes when in hurry. What is next for bean counter Timmy.....moving development to india? Maybe put snop dogg on os x dev team and pay him couple of billions so he can get all the weed he likes.
Tim C(r)ook: "Oh our products don't work and i have **** loads of work to do? Nah, I would just rather go to some convention to support gay people and use Apple for my personal goal. People will still buy our product so why bother"

Agree 100%
Also, what's the deal with Safari not letting me just delete history? I have to delete all website data now. Ludicrous.

And I will repeat what I said a few times before-Get Jony Ivy away from software! he knows squat about UI's and obviously has the design notion of a 10 year old girl.

That is kind of a silly statement.

It's true. They won't push out a build that has no changes other than fixing the retina iMac.

So some retina iMacs (of which there are probably 10,000 in the entire world right now) suffer from a bug in a beta version of the OS. Big deal.

Well from what I read here, THEY BRICK! That's pretty serious. These are $3000 computers! Beta or not. I do hope this is not widespread.

After this update my MacMini 2012 i7 runs like hell now. Core Graphics animations are smoother. Before everything was lagging.
In Logic X startup animation fades in smoothly now, button and slider movement feels "alive" now. Anyway, Logic X needs a Yosemite update ASAP!!!

Sorry for my bad English, I´m from Germany! ;)

Preview windows are invisible?

Anyone else experiencing this problem where Preview windows are invisible?? I can see the shadow from the window, and I can click it, but i can just see whatever is behind it. Can't do much previewing like this...

Amen to that my friend :)
It appears that Jobs was good filter/ mentor for what is good and what is crap :)

I don't understand you people here on macRumors. Who told you that you can install a beta on your productive computers? If you did, then I am sorry but you are the only ones to blame here.
Apple explicitly mentions that betas are not meant for productive systems and that before installing a full backup should be made.
This is not a release intended for the public, but only for devs and beta testers.

I am tired of reading all these idiotic comments here. Grow up, try to read sth and educate yourselves. Also, get a life!

Beta testers are public and a lot of people try these betas to fix other ongoing problems. Stop being so defensive (and rude)

Many apps are broken with this update like Sublime Text and Popcorn Time for example. OSX just zooms the apps and are unsusable.

By the way, was the kernel updated from xnu-2782.1.97~2 ?
(Enter uname -a in Terminal.app)

xnu-2782.10.65~2

PopcornTime is fine here.

----------

With Chrome, it might be a plugin/extension issue..

I also noticed that the main Transmission window no longer updates..
VLC no longer plays videos.

What is going on?!

Seriously.. Apple has gone downhill since Jobs left.

VLC plays movies on my Mini, and transmission is OK as well.

--------

Seems like this build is better than 10.10.1, runs smoothly, graphics are better, it's fast as well.

omg people; NO you DON'T have to delete history along with website data. Just look into safari's preferences under privacy and there you have the option to delete JUST website data. or at the bottom of the 'show history' menu you have the option JUST delete the history. Same as on the iPhone's safari. Y'all keep bitchin about it over and over in practically every thread i go through it's driving me crazy lol. just take two minutes out of ur busy schedule of splitting the atom to go through your preferences and you'll find it's aaaaall there. that's all I'm saying.

Is anyone still seeing this update in the seed program on the app store? It isn't showing up for me and I wonder if they pulled it..

It has so far only been released to developers and appleseed, not public beta testers.

Public beta testers may get a build soon anyway - perhaps less disastrous than this one, so I wouldn't worry about not having access yet if you are from the public beta program.

Anyway, it is probably better that they release it to developers first because serious problems (like bricking apple's 5K imac for example) would then be exposed to fewer people.

I agree, but I wish they read these forums to see what happens in the wild.
