I appreciate you sharing your advice, but it's not entirely risk free. The firmware will be updated to a beta version regardless of where you install Ventura. I'm sure Apple will try to minimize errors, but it's still there. For instance, if the firmware update goes awry with a T2 Intel Mac, then you'll need a second Mac capable of capable of DFU mode to revert to the old version. So, public beta or not, there are risks involved.
Thanks, I updated my response. I wasn't thinking about T2 Macs with their odd hybrid architecture.

Keep in mind that the process is different than it used to be.

Before you could restore everything including the operating system itself from a Time Machine backup. You could even boot from it.

Now (Since at least Big Sur) you have to wipe the disk, reinstall the previous version of MacOS manually, then restore from the backup using Migration Assistant. It's a longer process that involves downloading the OS if you don't have a copy already handy.

Trying to make people aware as it's a bit more involved now.
Thanks for this.
In that case it looks like dual-booting is the easier option, I’d say.
According to the website, you just delete the volume if you want to get rid of the beta - or am I misunderstanding something?

Edit: ah, there’s no installer file I could use for that, is there?

If you're talking about being able to dual boot between Monterey/Big Sur and Ventura, then yes you can. The only caveat is that recovery mode will use Ventura beta build if you need to reinstall the OS and you can't downgrade it unless you use the Apple Configurator 2.
Thx. Sorry I should’ve clarified- yes I meant dual boot Monterey and Ventura.

Cheers for the advice

Build number is 22A5295i. It is also the revised beta 3 for developers. Why don’t they just call it beta 4? Maybe it is too close to the old beta 3.
And here I am running the previous Developer Beta 22A5295h

Not sure if I can be bothered updating from h to i at this time.

There was something weird about Ventura dev beta 3, but this build seems better

The Safari, M1 System FW, and Darwin version release were the same between dev beta 3 and this updated beta 3. :)

I would update, It's a small 1.43 GB update if you had dev beta 3 , pretty fast even compared to the previous update that installed faster. Safari seems to be not be getting slow with multiple tabs opened so far on my M1 24" iMac.

Let me try it out 2017 Mac Mini, oh wait, never mind:rolleyes:

really????? you can't install it on a early 2017 machine, man that really sucks from Apple, it's only 5 years! old. So why in hell I want spend $3K on macbook pro (by example) to only have 5 years of the latest OS??? seriously you comment makes me think on start to buy only Airs and change it every 5 years or something, overall that sucks from Apple!!!

I jumped on the first public beta last year with Monterey, there were some features that I cannot remember anymore that I was interested in.
For Ventura, nothing that’s listed in terms of new features gets me excited so I am not sure at this point whether or not to run the PB. But then, knowing me, by the end of the week I’ll have it installed LOL

Install macOS Ventura Beta on my main computer ✅
Install iOS 16 Beta on my main phone ✅

I love it so far. The settings (AKA System Preferences) is better than I expected. Safari is zippy (ok, ok "snappy") Mail is good, everything is great so far. No Wi-Fi troubles. The main test I'll check later is Logic Pro, but I don't anticipate any problems. This is on 2020 MBA M1 base model.

I absolutely despise their change to System Preferences to make it look more like iOS. As someone who supports all the Macs in my company (not to mention friends and family), this is going to cause huge confusion and problems. Not only is it a big change and makes settings much harder to find, but to limit an OS that generally has lots of screen real estate available to a long scrolling list (necessary on limited screen like iPhone) is just stupid. I was really hoping they would dump this silly idea before it made it to Beta. Hopefully enough people will complain and Apple will come to its senses.

I wish Apple didn't release public betas... because now I'm super tempted and only have my one and only Mac to install it on!
Public betas are generally safe as long as you make a ASR backup first.

The only sequence of betas that bothers me from 2015 10.10.3 (first pubic beta with program) and now was Catalina 10.15.5 beta where Apple used a darwin kernel that wasn't stable. Once we got to the release of 10.15.7 the issues had been fixed.

Big Sur, Monterey, and so far Ventura have been OK to work with in comparison.

I respectfully disagree. Having them all in a vertical row instead of a grid was instantly familiar to me, where as the "old" way always took me longer to find what I was looking for.

There is a full installer for the Ventura public beta (as well as version 2 of developer beta 3).

It comes with product id 012-38308 and if you go to the sucatalog and search for the InstallAssistant.pkg with that product id you will find it is at http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...k7cxffui52ggv4xd3xbpwuuw/InstallAssistant.pkg

(see how the number 012-38308 is part of the link itself)

You kind of really have to know what you are doing to understand what I am doing here.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, MrMacintosh made a website that makes this sort of stuff easier to find. The website is at https://mrmacintosh.com and you can navigate there to the stuff you want without having to bother with product ids or sucatalogs.
Worked a treat, thank you!

Incidentally, was it also this way last year with Monterey? It appears that Apple is shifting macOS to resemble iOS by way of doing delta/updates for full version upgrades, as opposed to the "old-school" way of downloading the full installer and doing an in-place upgrade.

Been looking forward to trying these.

iPhone, iPad and M1 Mini updating as I type. Risky living on the bleeding edge...😆

Installed on another volume and have already reported my first bug to Apple.
