I think it’s a bit ridiculous that Apple don’t provide some kind of support for those undertaking the public beta. Nope, just here you go, download it, ****ed if we care if it works or not.

This update totally hosed me. I can't mount my main internal SSD any more. Called Apple. No help. Ugh.

Mine is stuck on ‘Estimating time remaining’ with progress bar about midway between the m and a of estimating. Wondering if I should restart my laptop
Mine stayed like that for probably 90 minutes and then finished update slowly but successfully

Important: if you are a developer using Xcode 11 you may not want to install this yet. With Xcode 11 beta 3, SwiftUI previews won't work. Apple recommends waiting until Xcode 11 beta 4, which isn't out yet (beta 3 came out 2 weeks ago, so it probably will be available soon).

From Apple:
Using Xcode 11 beta 3 with macOS Catalina beta 4 will prevent SwiftUI previews from working. Update to Xcode 11 beta 4 when it becomes available.

Edit: Xcode 11 beta 4 was released today, 2019-07-17.

I'm on the fastest 2018 Mac Mini with 3.2-4.6 ghz. It took me a while to install (~5-8 min to get "unstuck".) I imagine it'll take a bit if you have a slower CPU. Please try giving it some time.

Performance and stability-wise, this beta seems quite a bit better.

I have a 2016 MBP with top CPU option and mines been about 4.5 hrs so far. I don’t think one has to do with another. For the record, not a single beta since I’ve owned this machine has caused any kind of problem like this.

I’m booting to internet recovery mode to see if that could fix this. So annoying!!

Edit: nope. Only wants to install older OS, won’t do Catalina.

I’m stuck for hours now as well (MBP 13” 2018)

Let me know if you manage to get it “unstuck”. This is super weird and not sure if there is anything we can do, obviously restarting doesn’t help.

Did Apple take off the update? I couldn't get it.
Be glad, at least you are not stuck at Apple Logo screen for 3+ hours...I feel like smashing things, this stupid bar just won’t move!!!

Don't forget to check the Release Notes, as there are some potentially critical issues you may need to take care before upgrading in some scenarios:
• FileVault on non-APFS volumes.
• An incompatibility with Xcode 11 beta 3, wait for beta 4 to be fixed (SwiftUI, DriverKit)

A lot of solved issues, but still many bugs, primarily related to the new features.

I just updated, and if I attempted to play any audio or video AT ALL, whichever app was trying to play it would beachball. Turns out it was from having my LG UltraFine 4K display plugged in. I unplugged it, and everything seems fine. I just can't use the display now, apparently.

(It also kept force-ejecting the external drives I had plugged in to my display.)

There is literally no way it could take this long on a quad-core MBP from 2018.
The build is broken and so is my Mac it seems. RIP
[doublepost=1563319900][/doublepost]Ok so if anyone managed to get it unstuck from “Estimating time remaining...” comment here ASAP. Thanks

One important note if you've been using Sidecar - if you upgrade to this new beta, Sidecar won't work until the next iPadOS beta is available.

So, What options are left when the Recovery mode doesn’t load?

Ok i finally got passed it after 6 hours - shut down, reset PRAM and it flew across and now is on a different screen with Catalina logo and saying installing on Macintosh HD with 16 mins remaining.

Woohoo!
Can confirm! After.. however many hours that was stuck at 30% on a blank screen, shutting down and zapping the PRAM and we’re back in business..

.. On a totally different, prettier progress bar with a Catalina logo. Hopefully this won’t get stuck for me, but it’s nice to have something else up on the display finally. o_O

Bro, I literally did the same thing right now, it’s a different screen but stuck at 26 mins there as well.

I did this also. Got the attached screen and have been sitting in the same spot since. So basically like before, just prettier to look at.
