Ugh.. why got this thread hijacked by ancient technology wishes by a handful of stubborn people.

*Expects to see replies regarding it's not ancient and there are more then 5 people wanting this... ok, 7*

I'm curious about this new beta,if enough bugs are solved I might install it on my daily workhorse :))

Are we able to use the "unlock with Touch ID on iPhone" feature now? It's been absent thus far, and the unlock with Apple Watch has not been working for me. Not even once.

I did not know that was part of Sierra. If I remember correctly from the Keynote, unlocking the Mac only works with Apple Watch.

I don´t think this was ever announced. It was just a rumor from a few months back..
Yes, it was announced. It even had a demo at the keynote.

Also, I do not think it has been added yet. I am excited to test it out when it does.

EDIT: My bad, I thought this was about Apple Watch, not Touch ID. I misread.

I don't have a Watch myself, but people on here have reported it working for them. Requires watchOS 3 beta on the Watch of course.
Ohh, that is why. I am not comfortable getting iOS 10 on my phone, so I obviously do not have watchOS 3.

That's your opinion. When the 17" MBP was an option, me and almost all my co-workers had them. Many of us do serious work on the road, and having a full workstation experience with a big screen with essential. 15" is still a bit too small to be comfortable. A 16-17" display in a rMBP-thin body would be absolutely wonderful for me.
I'm not trying to sound patronizing but that's exactly the definition of a niche product.

Seems like I no longer can tell the difference between rumours and announced features. I really believed the unlock with TouchID was a thing. Seems like a really awkward thing for Apple to not include. I guess it has something to do with them trying to push more Apple Watches.

Here's something a bit cheeky from Sierra - I don't really like it but some people might:

Email from apple to developers includes the following info:

"To make it even easier to update your system, this beta is available as an automatic download for El Capitan 10.11.5 or later. If you have set your Mac to download automatic updates in the background and receive beta software updates, the macOS Sierra beta 4 will download automatically and you will receive a notification when the download is complete. Simply click “Install” to begin."

So you can go from 10.11.5 or 10.11.6 directly to 10.12 DP4 via automatic downloads. You don't need to already have 10.12 DP3 installed. This is quite a new way to update.

No, i'd say push new Macs since it'll be built in on the oled bar.

Yes, it was good, but I'm sure you'll agree that the 17" is nevertheless a niche product?

OK, I concede, the 17" was a niche product.

Is it more niche than an borderline-unusably-small 12" laptop that starts at $1,300? I haven't seen the sales numbers, but it would kind of surprise me if so. I see very few rMBs in the wild around here.

For that matter, all Mac's are a niche market.

I was a happy 17" user all the way up until they discontinued them. I loved it.

That would be correct but Apple makes a lot of niche products. Heck, that rumored car is a niche. Their marketshare in basically a niche overall in most things.

You do it, not because it's a huge profit center, but because you're Apple The iphone may be the most important, but Macs should be the heart. Once in awhile, screw it, you should just give a few nods to your hardcore loyal fans.

Tim Cook, if he wants to redeem himself to many, should walk on stage with a 17" rMBP as the finale. Invite Blizzard to demo. Didn't warcraft just get Metal support? Did you know that movie is number one for a video game primarily due to China? Make a splash.

I had the last beta and one day it suddenly just slowed my macbook pro down so bad I couldn't use it.
It also disabled my microphone...like, it totally removed my microphone, I couldn't use "Hey Siri" at all.
I was forced to downgrade back to El Capitan until they polish it out.

It's still not showing up for me in Beta 4 when I go into security settings and all my devices were updated today. MBP, iPhone and Apple Watch which I'm disappointed at as this is something I'd love to be beta testing.

Did Apple fix the insane memory usage problems? PB ran with memory usage in the red on a "supported" MBAir with 2gb.

Is Disk Utility the same underpowered and ugly UI as it was in El Cap? - It's so awful now, contextual clicks on drives dont even work anymore for mount/unmount options…
It's still mostly the same, but contextual menus work fine for me. Not sure if they did in El Capitan or not... Regardless, Disk Utility is what it is: A utility for people who know very little. diskutil is my go-to command for most things disk related. Anything more advanced than that, then one of the newfs commands, fdisk, gpt, among others. I've never been bothered by the middle-aged crisis Disk Utility is going through, personally.
