Or maybe you were just incapable of understanding it. Perhaps make your argument as to why you think this is not possible and I and others here will explain to you how it works.

Apple Watch can already do this on a Mac.

It would be fine with Apple Watch and PARTIAL Face ID match (top half without mask); but just watch is really too insecure (even for Mac).

I’d love to have seen a point update with a solution to face masks.

Apple has a real opportunity to skip Face ID by verifying if the wearer’s Apple Watch is nearby. The Watch is already a secure authenticated device. When you put on the Watch at home, Face ID on your iPhone verifies you and passes on that security to your Watch. As long as you keep the Watch on, it should be able to unlock your iPhone even if you’re wearing a mask.
I certainly see your point but imagine how easy it would be to grab someones phone and try to unlock it close to them? But more importantly they've made it a point to give users an option to disable face-id/touch-id so they cannot be forced to use biometics for law enforcement. It would be a step backwards for them.

Personally, I'd rather them bring TouchID to the lock button for use with a mask. They obviously already have the technology, they put it in the iPad.

i guess Pedro didn’t word it accurately. It is not close to it as in few steps away. The feature would work by basically unlocking iPhone when you are “holding” It with the hand wearing Apple Watch. Using U1.

Still I would much prefer Touch ID on Power Button.
