Apple Watch has the U1 chip. It knows *exactly* where your iPhone is, down to millimetre precision and direction.
Middle ground: have "Double click Apple Watch to unlock" on the iPhone, similar to how it works for non-privileged password authentications on macOS.

I can see why Apple wouldn't do it, even with the U1 chip. There's no guarantee that you're not say asleep, incapacitated, etc. (This would apply to the above too.)

If I were to be in charge of iOS development, I would have the user able to allow certain apps to operate while the phone is locked. Namely (and for me, only) my grocery list.

FYI, there's an app called "Shoppylist" that does that. ;)

So still no audioOS / HomePod update? So we got nothing for 14.0 and now nothing for 14.1? 14.2 it is then? Why don't Apple provide any information? WWDC'20 led us to believe that we would receive audioOS/HomePod 14.0 but still we haven't heard anything.

Apple Watch knows if you’re asleep, or if you’re awake.

...it also knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake. 🎅🏻

That's... amazing!

I can't believe I've never thought of that. I usually set my screen timeout to 5 minutes or never since it's annoying to keep unlocking my phone as I stroll through the store.

Thank you! :p

Why not just use the large Reminders (or Notes or whatever list app) widget? It's just a swipe from the lock screen-- I just tested it while covering the camera and it works while locked.

Figured apple would be taking Covid in account maybe bring back touch ID to bypass face ID seeing how they added a brand new Touch ID to the iPad Air like come on apple love the phones but do you know something we don't about all this

I’d love to have seen a point update with a solution to face masks.

Apple has a real opportunity to skip Face ID by verifying if the wearer’s Apple Watch is nearby. The Watch is already a secure authenticated device. When you put on the Watch at home, Face ID on your iPhone verifies you and passes on that security to your Watch. As long as you keep the Watch on, it should be able to unlock your iPhone even if you’re wearing a mask.

Just include touchID as well as faceID and the user can use whichever they prefer or that’s applicable.
