It is out. It's just the OTA that has yet to go live. I've updated 2x iPhone's and 2x iPad's already by downloading the IPSW from developer.apple.com.
That's not really out, at least not publicly, which is what an article like this implies.

And if law enforcement wants to unlock your phone and you have your watch on, well, now you’ve just let them in, or a mugger wants to get into your phone, well, there you go...

I would veto this option, but if Apple makes this available as an option for those who want it, I’m not opposed.

I understand the reasonable implications you are stating but at some point you have to take some chances. I guess you shouldn't be using your phone at all unless you are 100 feet away from people. A mugger could bonk you on the head while you are using it and bingo, they have your unlocked phone at their disposal. This definitely would have to be a toggle for those that want/require high security but some of us have nothing to hide and the probability of the scenarios you mentioned happening to me are as close to 0 as it gets. The convenience of having my watch unlock my phone if its within a few feet of each other would be something I would love to have. Again, it should be a toggle with default turned to off.

Whelp, I'm waiting for my iPhone 11 Pro Max to boot up after updating to iOS 14.1 from within Finder from the downloaded .ipsw File. I guess I'll know, maybe, soon enough why it was pulled. Looks like maybe I'll be updating twice today 😂

So maybe 14.1 is just for these iPhone 12 models, until we all unify on the 14.2 update that's still in Beta...

That was my first thing crossed my mind, but they would easily avoid that not creating a build from that version to each supported model (XR, 11 etc.).

I think now it will be released soon, but it was not planned for today. Otherwise it does not make sense to create builds to every supported models.

So what are the IPSW files that I just downloaded from RedmondPie? Are they not the iOS 14.1 update?

I wonder if someone will hack into The mainframe of the update and find some hidden updates like airbags and AirPower
