Blu-Ray Rant Start -

#1 - not useful to me unless I am watching it on a 32" screen or larger...

What mac has that? (MAC PRO with a 30" monitor to watch Blu-Ray is not my idea of cost effective)

#2 Normally we are watching FILES... We can D/L them. Saves Battery power on a laptop... Blu-Ray Discs like DVD's will use more power on a laptop. PLUS the Silly un-escapable menus on a DVD and now EVEN More Annoying advert's on Blu-Ray.

#3 Lets say Blu-Ray Burner.... 25-50GB on a Disc.... How long does that take to Burn....we all know its going to be forever... and a laptop is not going to come with X12 Blu-Ray Burner.

Basically if you need Blu-Ray fork out the money for a PS3.... at least it can play Blu-Ray.

Rant over

You mean you have to come to MacRumors to find out? Don't they tell developers what the bugs are?

Straight from Apple's Mac Dev center page (logged in):

"Pre-release versions of Mac OS X are available to ADC Premier and Select Members."

Premier and Select memberships cost lots of money. I can't afford it.

So, apparently no one's willing to share the list of bug fixes :(

When is Apple going to fix the wallpaper switcher's transitions. It lags horrible on transistions on my Macbook Pro.

I ran some tests. If I disable the 3D dock and disable the clear menubar and restart, there is no stuttering during wallpaper transitions. With them enabled, it's unbearable.

In Tiger, the wallpaper switcher was flawless. I tried setting up a new account and nothing worked. I went to an Apple Store once and decided to try it out on an iMac (the new aluminum ones), and the suttering/lag was there. I can't believe Apple hasn't fixed it.

There's always Snow Leopard... I guess.

This issue has made me consider going back to Tiger, but then I lose stacks and a few other features I really like.

Hate the new mac os x

I like tiger better.. idk why, it just looked better.. I wish they would stop coming out with new things every year.. I just got this new macbook and its goood but idont like the interface of leopard:mad:

Hmm, well I can't say I've got that problem, maybe it an Nvidia related problem? I just stuck it on to switch every 5 seconds with 2560x1600 desktops, and it's smooth as.

Exactly, it's an overrated and still irrelevant technology for the masses. BR adds little value to movies and videos, unless you have a gigantic screen. And 99% of the customers haven't got the slightest need for storage beyond that which is already offered by DVD-Rs...

Urrr, right. There are those of us who own Mac Pro's and use them for professional video applications. Clients are asking more and more for high def. Especially for conferences where the video will be played on a huge projection screen.

The lack of Blu-Ray disc creation hurts. Apple may have an issue with Blu-Ray licensing. But I'm afraid there are those of us who couldn't care less about Apples pissing matches and would like to get on with the business of running a business and being able to offer clients a competitive service. And in modern video production that means being able to offer Blu-Ray.

Perhaps. It could very well be a driver problem. I think it's a problem with the Core Animation.

When you restart with the opaque menu bar enabled, core animation for the menu bar is disabled. And if you use the 2D dock, core animation is disabled. I really think Apple needs to investigate the performance issues with Core Animation, but it's ridiculous that a 8600M GT can't handle it, and yet integrated graphics, ATi's video cards and practically any other video card can handle core animation with no performance problem. I doubt it has to do with my 8600M GT having 128 mb of memory, since I've read that the x3100 and I think the GMA 950 have no problems, and they are significantly less powerful than the 8600M GT.

Pardon my words but that's utter nonsense. Core Animation is not a subsystem that is "enabled" or disabled. Its an API that programs (including the regular system) uses to simply do OpenGL animation easily, quickly, and to also do them with system windows, controls, etc...

The issue you have is most likely with the driver OR the 128MB of vRAM you have. Those far weaker graphics cards still had more VRAM potentially. And maybe on those systems Apple uses a less heavy graphics path that they should take in your situation. But since every window (including the background pic) is a texture in VRAM, it may simply be that added to all the other windows and compositing going on, you ran out.
