Hoping that they fix the issue where it takes an age to open up screen sharing with another computer (takes around 2 minutes to open up). There's been a few tweaks and fixes on the web, but none work for me.

why does it take apple so long to release working updates? Its not like they are feature changes there nothing but dated stability and security updates. That other company is able to patch and release so fast and efficient. Does size really give them that big of an advantage?

I would be careful when you say the other company is able to patch and release so fast and efficient. MS code is very bloated (not to say that Apple isn't in it's own respects). However, MS also puts less time into testing. about 1/2-3/4 of the weekly patches tend to cause problems on 1/4-1/2 of our machines. We always dread MS patch days as we can never be sure if it will not cause another problem.

Kinda reminds me of a company I worked for years ago. They did not fix anything, they just programmed work-arounds. The code base just kept getting more bloated, yet it was patched so many times, they were afraid to attempt to remove anything that may be long since obsolete. So instead they just programmed more code to get around that.

What difference/changes will I notice in 10.6.4? From what I understand they are minor bug and reliability fixes. If so, then what's the big deal?

Hmm, I never had a problem with MS updates, not even the SP updates. So yes, Windows might suck more, but it's not a fair comparison.

It's not like MS can realistically test on all systems - Apple could, literally, have a room with all the systems they support (they use the same Ethernet chipset for all 3 Macbook pros, for example).

I hope they correct an annoying bug which occurs to me once in a while: The files and folders on my desktop get aligned in the right part of the screen. This means I have to loose like 2 minutes organizing everything again...
A bug which occurs to you? Are you thinking of creating this bug and submitting it to Apple? Let us know how it goes.

In the meantime people who can't wait for your masterpiece can get the same effect by typing CTRL-CMD-1 (or 2, or 3 ...) or by selecting an "arrange by" option from the right-click menu.

Oh and tie those loose minutes down in case you lose them. Ah, I'm bored, must find something productive to do.

Well, what else is new? Nothing. They're dragging their feet on 10.6.4 like they're dragging their feet on everything connected with OS X. We've had all sorts of events, but it's all iphone, ipad, ipod... where is 10.7? Let's face it, they even cut Mac OS awards for developers at the latest event.

What more would you like OS X to do? What other "revolutionary" features can Apple possibly add into a notebook/desktop OS? It's a "computer operating system." That whole paradigm is by now old and tired. The entire industry is undergoing a transition and Apple is leading it. For more information, watch the WWDC keynote.

Meanwhile Windows 7 has either caught up to Snow Leopard, or is very close to doing so.

That says quite a bit about what Apple has accomplished with their so-called "minor update" to OS X. MS has had their head up their ass for years when it came to their core business. Sad. It's taken them what, 8 or 9 years to simply get "very close" to catching up to OS X? Apple doesn't need marketing, you're doing it for them!

I don't think Apple give a hoot about the Mac OS anymore

I guess that's why they've seeded an update to developers, and have continued to do so since SL was released a few months ago.

I use screensharing over my wired network everyday a couple of times and it is always up and running in about 10 seconds, all the machines have 10.6.3 on it, so its very possible that the delay has to do with your network and not the os itself i'm afraid.

This shows a complete lack of imagination.

I'm sure that Apple have more imagation and will innovate OSX accordingly, in order to widen the gap between OSX and windows once more.

Tablets are still in their infancy. Tablets don't have the capabilities, or horse power to replace PCs ( desktops or laptops ). For very light computing, at the moment, they are OK, anything more, and they'll struggle, due to lack of hardware and software.

Desktop OSes will be around for years to come.

Get it right

I agree that Apple should be allowed to take there time. Honestly, I think we would all rather complain that it takes to long than complain that it doesn't work.

OpenGL drivers, Valve mentioned that the 10.6.4 will have much better drivers for gaming.

When are they going to release this? actually there are alot of thisngs we would like updated also.

I was hoping this would be out in time for TF2 for Mac which will be out tomorrow, but I'm still glad to see that Apple is taking their time getting it right.

I wonder if this will fix the random freezing of the mouse/keyboard I get on my MacBook Pro 13". Didn't start happening until SL, and occurs randomly every couple of weeks or so.
