Well I'd guess Apple would stop naming the OS after animals, and choose some other "thing". There are plenty of things like planets, forests, oceans, galaxies, clouds, plants…

Perhaps the background of the Lotus in the Lion preview was a hint ;)

It's strange because there is almost no trace of animal qualities in the design.

Then they tried having a space theme, which was limited to two very similar start-up screens and the gimmicky Time Machine interface.

Somehow this all fits into an "apples" theme - the one variety of which is named after McIntosh (spelled correctly) apples and no other kinds.

:)

Well the real question is: when will Apple see the need to advance to another major version of Mac OS?

When OS X replaced Mac OS 9, it was a completely new OS which had few, if any, resemblance with the old one.
I don't think Apple will walk away from the base of OS X anytime soon as it is a very reliable system.

Jobs said when he first introduced OS X that the foundation will carry the OS for 20 years. It has been 10 years only. Another 10 to go with OS X.

"Mac OS XI Gonorrhea" :D

Let's hope they've fixed the graphics-related crashing that many of us have experienced since 10.6.5. I'm very close to going back to 10.6.4.

@namethisfile, it's not just 2010 models. My 2007 MBP crashes almost every day.

Haven't had any graphics issue and i'm driving a 24" ACD with a 9400m *shrug*

Actually, the positive correlation between the OS X names and German tank names has been noted. Jaguar, Tiger, Leopard - believe it or not, were/are the names of German tanks. So cats or tanks :)

AFP, CIFS and SMB need to get better for those of use who have a NAS.

I hope to see better improvements in SMB on 10.6.7. More stability and performance overall.

It was a "Spinal Tap" ref.

Sorry if that was not obvious

I got it but I'm also over 40. :p The kids on this site probably need a little help with 80's references (1984 to be exact).

cheers

Can someone who has access to this build do me a favour, and see if there is a frame buffer included for HD6xxx cards?

Just look under System/Library/Extensions for filename "ATI6000Controller.kext"

thank you!

My one and only issue with 10.6.6 on my iMac was caused by the 10.6.5 update. An audible "pop" from the speakers before a sound is played and 30 seconds after a sound stops. It's the audio hardware waking up and going to sleep - it's very annoying... Apple, please address this.

For anybody wondering why so fast, Apple doesn't stop developing just because an update was released. Also, 10.6.6 wasn't a major update either, it was probably prepped weeks before the release just for the purpose of releasing the Mac App Store.

I hope with the release of the Mac App Store and with more games coming out, Apple will work on improving the graphic drivers as well. They did say so in the seed notes that it contains more improvements.

Also to the guy who said that it's a good thing that there are no known issue, it doesn't mean anything. No known issues that they are aware of. They had several seeds where there was no known issues and they continue to seed newer builds for months. I think it was 10.6.4 where there was 5-6 months of new builds with no known issue.
