On portable Mac computers with Apple silicon, new USB and Thunderbolt accessories require user approval before the accessory can communicate with macOS for connections wired directly to the USB-C port. This doesn’t apply to power adapters, standalone displays, or connections to an approved hub. Devices can still charge if you choose Don’t Allow.
You can change the security configuration in System Settings > Security and Privacy > Security. The initial configuration is Ask for new accessories. Configuring an accessibility Switch Control sets the policy to always allow accessory use. Approved devices can connect to a locked Mac for up to three days.
Seems to fix/explain the weird sleep/wake behavior with USB devices in Monterey

I don't find it intuitive on iOS - but that's just me.

Somehow it makes more sense in some areas, but because of so many years, reflexes still remained for me.

Overall I don't feel like I am on a different OS to be honest. Everything is the same.
Not just you.I feel the same. To me it feels a bit like a change for the sake of change. And I started out being super intrigued about it :/
I already miss the “About this Mac -> Storage” User Journey. I used that a lot and now it’s kinda clunky.

In order to get the release version, I need to remove the beta profile now, and skip this build, right?

I would install this version first and then remove the profile after.

EDIT: I think it might be auto removing the profile after installing the RC. At least it appears to have done so for me using the public beta profile.

Damn, part of me wants to avoid it, part of me wants to install it just to get the pain over with.

I wonder which part will win. Last time I waited a while (few months) to install a new MacOS was Big Sur.

Stage manager still COMPLETELY broken on dual monitors. Nice one Apple 👍 As in literally doesn't work. Not a small bug or something. You literally cannot group two apps together. They just disappear across to somewhere on your main monitor, usually off screen in the top left or bottom left corner.

Didn't remove my beta profile after RC install.

SMH because I can never install new the macOS release until about a year after the public release because of 3rd party software crucial to my music studio business usually run about a year behind in compatibility.
Thank your lucky stars you don't have to deal with the crapfest Apple puts out as the first release of any new macOS. If you wait a year then Apple will have fixed a few of the bugs and introduced a few more before moving on to the next version.

Yes that's my consolation.

Anyone else still have Safari leaking memory? At least once a once a week I have kill Safari....when it gets to 50-60GB and I run out of memory. Even as I write this, I'm at 18GB. Went up from 11GB after browsing this site for 10 minutes.

Added my 13-inch M1 Pro to the beta this morning, then installed the RC. So far, things are working normally on this machine. Finally decided to connect it to my CalDigit TS3 Plus and external monitor - got the prompt to allow the connection, and things are good. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected fine and so far no drops or other issues that I can see. Will be playing around with it more this week, but I dont anticipate any obstacles to my daily usage.

On my M1 (16GB RAM) it been fine since beta 11. Safari versions 16.1 (18614.2.9.1.8) and the RC 16.1 (18614.2.9.1.10)

latest dev beta is the first one that’s given me any trouble (window server and app freezes)

everything was smooth previously

hopefully this isn’t another step back

I was getting the window server crashes frequently in the earlier betas, but the last few have been good. I assumed it was because of the eGPU I use with my Mac mini. That is not exactly going to be the first configuration they test. Maybe my constant crash reports helped out. :)
