If you were willing to go scorched earth on your Mac to go back to SL, did you try a clean install of Lion first as well?

Oh, yes..... But don't get me wrong, I've got no problem with lion in principle. It's just that I've now got a checklist to go through before I go back to 10.7.3.(or .4 or .5 who knows?). Need to make sure lion works for me as SL did.

Or even the general graphics/video problems many of us are having on non-2010 models. My old, early 2007 2.16 C2D MBP suffers systems freezes & kernel panics w/ regularity whenever I watch videos (using QT/Perian, VLC or M PlayerX), especially if it's HD, 720p. I can boot from my Snow Leo install on firewire drive, play the same vid file w/ no issues. It's maddening having to hard re-start, then shut down the video app upon re-boot since the damn auto-resume "feature" can't be turned off

Regarding the playback - is there a way to force software based decoding? IIRC the updated Video Decoder Framework has expanded support so I wonder whether something is being triggered in the driver that wasn't triggered in Snow Leopard. Btw, have you run a memory test and a 'hardware stress test' to see whether these issues are replicable under other scenarios?

The biggest problem I've noticed with people experiencing issues are those using third party software - on another forum I follow when a crash or bug appears one only needs to look through at the extensions loaded to see that someone is running a third party extension that is woefully out of date or some extension used for virtualisation.

Man, maybe it's because of the holidays, but there has been a long time in between builds for having no known issues. I have a feeling we'll see the final release sometime in early January.

You'll see the final version along with the final version of IOS 5.1 as soon as the new iPad comes out.

People always say this, but it's hardly ever the case. Apple doesn't usually time Mac software updates with new hardware.
