OS X Lion is the best, most revolutionary, magical, powerful operating system ever released. Launchpad really is amazing breakthrough technology so awesome and simple to use. Mission control is gorgeous and really wonderful. Let's not forget the App Store bringing unbelievably great software to you with a single click. And it just works. Even the backgrounds in Lion are beautiful collections of fine art. Wonderful, stunning, breathtaking artistry.

Mac OS Tiger dont have launchpad.

I agree with many here about hoping the wifi issue is fixed. I finally ran a network cable to our DSL modem just so we could get data backed up to Crashplan.

It's frustrating to have a cable running across the floor, but at least we can surf.

...really all they need to do is allow us the OPTION to truly turn off:
- autosave/versions & resume
...

I am waiting for that one too. I don't want Lion until I can turn off auto save/versions. I want to be in control of how documents are saved (Save/Save As). Maybe they should have implemented it like TextEdit where it creates an "filename (Autosaved)" version if you haven't saved for 60 seconds. I could have lived with that.. but too often I am editing something for a temporary printout or copy-paste and don't want it to save the original at all.

When will they fix the bug that causes Spaces and Exposé to not exist at all, and the existence of Mission Control? It's obviously a bug, since there's nothing logical that would explain it!

I hope to God you are trolling. If you are serious I have never seen a post this out of touch for a long time.

- LaunchPad an amazing breakthrough technology? What exactly is the difference between LaunchPad and a Application Stack apart from LaunchPad being fullscreen and the Application Stack being able to be managed via Finder (which enables dragging more than one app at a time into folders and the deleting of more than one App at a time)? I don't mind LaunchPad (despite it's habit of re-arranging my icons), but it certainly isn't amazing or breakthrough.

- Yep. Mission Control looks wonderful. But is a total mess when you have more than 4 Apps open with several windows for each App. Fortunately, Application Expose still exists, which is the only redeeming thing about Mission Control. Spaces is sorta ruined. I'd love to be able to have a grid of spaces back and have them permanent.

- The Mac App Store is available in Snow Leopard and works just the same as it does in Lion.

- I don't care for backgrounds. I care for usability. As do many computer users. Until Lion fixes certain bugs that makes it unusable on my MBA (*ahem* WIFI!) and brings back much loved features such as Spaces, its never going to be as good as Snow Leopard.

Son, you've been trolled.

Has it sunk in yet for Apple that Mission Control's lack of Expose makes it a complete failure, or are they not going to address the issue at all?

A simple option in system preferences to ungroup windows would solve the problem.

Also, give us the ability to
-completely disable (and effectively remove) Launchpad.
-completely disable spaces (the grey border in mission control is redundant).
-have an option to turn off the macbook's main screen when hooked up to an external LCD. I have to wake from sleep in order to do this.

What the hell are you talking about?

Why do you need to remove Launchpad? That is ridiculous. I find it incredibly useful, after a few weeks with Lion I was so used to it that I'd never want it to go anywhere. If you don't like, just don't use it. Drag it out of the dock, and turn of the gesture that evokes it (or, like I said, just DON'T USE IT).

Completely disable Spaces? Why don't you jut go back to Tiger.

Your post makes no sense whatsoever. Mission control is the same as Expose but better, and the ability to see the Desktop or Application windows is still available via gestures and hot corners and settings. Clearly if you spent more time trying to figure it out than whining nonsensically on a forum, you might be having a better experience.

My main complaints with Lion are it just seems slower than SL. It boots up and shuts down slower, too. I have 8GB, so I don't have memory issues, but I'm not watching how much it uses either.

I don't mind all the extra features and stuff, it's the responsiveness that seems a little off.

Frankly, this is getting tiresome. Mission Control is fine. Spaces is better than ever (and all my old navigation tricks of opt+arrow or opt+number still work, on top of now having 4 finger swipes left+right). Different backgrounds on each space means I can easily identify which space I'm on.

Same for Expose. Much better than it was for me. Before, it would just prop up every window from every application and it would be a mess to find what I needed. Now, I select the proper application and Expose to find a window within that application. 2 steps instead of 1 but much faster and more efficient at finding windows. Sometimes that extra step helps save time.

Don't mistake your clinging to old ways or personal preference with an actual flaw. I find the new Mission Control much better than the old way. But of course, squeaky wheel gets the grease, so I bet Apple will eventually cave and give us back all the broken Expose stuff from before. Let's just hope they keep the new around, because frankly, I like what they did with Lion.

Unfortunately time is money, and I don't have the time to fight with my computer. If Apple doesn't want to give us a few lousy checkboxes to change this stuff, then I really don't have any interest in turning my year old $10K workstation into a giant overpowered iPhone.

Epic win for Apple?

"I have a year old computer that won't run this new operating system properly because it's a piece of crap. So I went out and bought a new faster machine! And it can run the crappy operating system normally now! Woohoo!"...

-SC

SSD standard and 4GB RAM, preferably 8, and you should be good to go, even with full disk encryption. But that being said Lion still has a few quirks.

All those who don't like the way something works, send feedback to Apple.

And don't send childish BS like "you broke Exposé, wah wah wah!"

Make a statement and support it. "With Mission Control, I can't press a key and see all the opened windows in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I could in Exposé. How about adding a preference that shows all the windows instead of grouping them"

With Lion I can't trust Wi-Fi to have a consistent internet connection on my mbp. I used to just start up the computer and without having to do a single thing I was (automatically) connected to known networks using Wi-Fi. Now I'm forced to use a long cable coming from another room across the hallway into my room to be able to connect to the internet. When I'm not at home I'm not able to use the internet because of this problem.
Fixing this issue would solve this problem :)

I'd love to have it working again. Thank you!:)

Lion still has Exposé, and you can remove Launchpad from the dock and still get to it

I've removed all of the unnecessary icons from the dock, because there are menus, hot corners, or gestures I can use to get to them: Time Machine, App Store, System Preferences, Launchpad, Expose, Dashboard, etc.

For launchpad, I went to System Preferences > Mission Control > Hot Corners and set the lower right to Launchpad. However, I may disable it, because I never use it, and I sometimes accidentally hit that corner.

Mission control was like the old "see all windows" Exposé, which I think one of the commenters here is complaining about. You can also do the "single app" Exposé.

Go to System Preferences > Trackpad > More gestures. There, you can set gestures for the various things. I set three fingers swipe up for Mission Control and three fingers swipe down for App Exposé.

Now that I'm looking at it again, I think I'll get rid of the launchpad hot corner, because I like the three fingers and thumb pinch better.

I realize I'm on a laptop so I get easy gestures, but if I got a new iMac, I'd get the external trackpad option anyhow. It's easier on my carpal tunnel than a heavy wireless mouse with batteries in it. If I use a mouse, I always go for wired to avoid the excess intertia.

I'm hoping a developer will make their own Expose/Spaces clone.

We have BusyCal to replace iCal and although BusyCal could use a UI upgrade, at least it is feature complete, easy to use and doesn't look like complete ass.

There are okay Address Book clones for those of us that don't think our computer should be flipping through pages.

TotalFinder gives us a Tabbed Finder.

Sure, you can make MC work for you, but I never had to make Space/Expose work for me, those things always just worked without any thought or effort. I move my mouse to two corners and I could see absolutely everything at once, move windows around, only deal with one or two animations, etc. Simple, direct, clear. MC can't show you everything at once, App Expose takes you out of MC, etc.

All we really need is a good Windows/Content management system back and it looks like an outside developer will have to do it because it is clear that Apple without Steve is not capable of thinking through all the little details.

Mission control was like the old "see all windows" Exposé, which I think one of the commenters here is complaining about. You can also do the "single app" Exposé.

Mission Control is close to "see all windows" but the windows overlap, obscuring the content. If you have more than 2 windows then everything is obscure and sometimes entire windows are obscured because they are smaller than others. You can then do App Expose, but that takes you out of Mission Control, making it so you can't move windows around. So you then have to go back into Mission Control to move the window to another Space. Heaven help you if you want to move 5 windows around.

Also, Mission Control cannot show you everything at once. Forcing you to remember which space you content was on and/or which application you content was on. Not that big of a deal, but annoying considering you never had to bother remembering anything about your content beyond its basic appearance.

Overall, I find that Mission Control requires a lot more work to do simple things as compared to 10.6. I would gladly put 10.6 on my Macbook Air if I could find all the drivers. Then I could just wait until an outside developed releases an Expose/Spaces clone.

Why because mission control has an insane problem.

I may have not figured out how to change the settings. Here is the problem.

lion osx has a calculator it is accessed via mission control. once you access it you can't see the window you were on. lets say I am buying an item on ebay and want to find out how much it is discounted percent wise.

snow let you drag that same calculator into the dock. so I could have two or three windows open and use the calculator to figure out what item was the best to buy. so for some one to say fix mission control it is not a normal request. thus the plus for wikus

as for the minus vote to reborn.

lion now causes me to have an extra piece of gear sitting on my desk a calculator . if you think being forced to buy a calculator to do my business is personal preference you are wrong.

I would really hope some one would tell me no if you click this that and the other in lion you can get access to the built in calculator and web pages at the same time on the same screen. If I am correct and lion stole this well then lion is really poor for running internet business.

I know that i can do work arounds, but come on what good is a calculator that is stuck on a gray page. Without access to webpages or work pages.

NEVERMIND I SOLVED MY PROBLEM I FOUND OUT HOW TO RELEASE THE CALCULATOR TO THE DOCK.

I really hope this addresses the issues I have been having connecting to wifi. Both of my laptops choke when ever they awaken from sleep mode and reconnect to wifi.

No documented issues my a££.....i downgraded to SL last week, after seveal weeks of frustration with lion, and it was the best thing I did since I started using macs some many years ago.

Did you report it to Apple?

What? Look, man, i open an app and tap it's icon twice in the Dock (Magic Mouse obviously) and i get Expose with windows of that app.

Didn't work for me either, what did work was to double right-click the icon(or if you're using a trackpad, double tap, with your two fingers). But I find swiping down my 3 fingers easer ;-)

actually, if i may add, i have an easier suggestion. if you're within the application (photoshop) and you 3 finger swipe up on your track pad, you activate mission control, but more importantly if you 3 finger swipe down you activate expose just for that application.

should it not work for you, you can find all these great gestures that you can customize within system preferences > trackpad > more gestures. they even have videos that show you how to activate it to help prevent mistakes testing it out. the setting I'm referring to says, "App Expose: Swipe down with three fingers"

It doesn't get any easier than that really. I highly suggest everyone visit this section to learn all the great gestures apple built into that very wide track pad you're using.

You can just 3 finger swipe down under the app icon you want to expose.
