This update resolves an odd and minor Safari issue I'd reported. From my perspective I'd call it progress.

The oddities folks report with Yosemite are strange from my perspective. This OS has been pretty faultless on my heavily-used and well-traveled rMBP. Not that I doubt the reports, but it's at least possible that Yosemite will come to work as brilliantly for others once some of the mysteries are figured-out.

At least no one can argue that Yosemite was just a buff-and-gloss update. There were clearly some very deep transformations going on under the hood. I expect that will continue in future releases, not least because I expect a changeover to a more modern file system within the next two major releases. That will be a worthwhile transition... and probably glitchy too.
Why do you think now? I'm curious, since people have been saying this since Snow Leopard.

Lots of necessary groundwork has been laid, slowly and incrementally, since Lion. The file system is entirely abstracted by Core Storage now. They're ready, or close to it. It's time.

10.10.2 Issues

10.10.2 Downloaded automatically & now several apps are screwed....

iPhoto wont show photos................As with Aperture (not full size ones)

Parallels 10 has completely crashed

Preview again wont show the image itself.....

Anyone else having issues?

They just can't get this WiFi issue resolved.

It's not one issue.

… complex stuff and there are many factors that could trigger different behaviour.

Firmware for what?

For some Yosemite-capable Macs, I guess. (I should not expect firmware for, say, a Time Capsule to be bundled with updates for OS X.)

OS X Yosemite: About your computer’s firmware

About EFI firmware updates

EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs

See ya - one less whiner on this forum.

Posts about Apple are preferable to posts that take that attitude to other writers.

Hope they fix the WiFi issues.

Since the downgrade to Yosemite I've been having WiFi connectivity/instability issues on my rMBP 13" late 2013. This is just unacceptable.

You can't officially release a product (OS X Yosemite) to the public and then expect your everyday customers to keep beta-testing your unfinished product and deal with these problems.

I need to get work done as I rely on my WiFi connection and I'm about to throw this damn machine over to Cupertino in some Apple manager's face who is responsible for this damn mess. (/rant)

It seems like a new low...

Having been a Mac user since 1988, I have to agree with a previous poster that stated that the Mac OS is at a new low. "I want a tool, not a hobby." was once a quote basing the functionality and stability of Windows against that of the Mac OS. These days, it applies equally well, perhaps even more, to the Mac OS.

I'm sorry to say that my late 2013 rMBP is probably my last Mac. I have been profoundly disappointed with its performance. From Finder hostility, to WiFi problems, to problems I can't even begin to track the source of...frustrating and sad. I miss Snow Leopard, IMHO that OS was that last that "just worked".

I've no doubt that Jobs is rolling in his grave.

Yosemite Misery

Having become totally disgusted with numerous problems in Windows 8.1, and having had a good experience with the last three iPads I've owned, and my iPhone, I thought I'd make the switch to a totally Apple environment.

I purchased a mac mini 2014, 8gb version and have regretted it ever since. It just WILL NOT work properly with my Asus monitor. Unless I boot it with a PRAM reset every time! (Whereupon it works without issue via thunderbolt to display port). I did updates, SMC resets, PRAM resets, safe modes etc.etc. NOTHING WORKED. The HDMI connection cable had similar problems (and even more as it wouldn't respond properly after sleeping) Having checked the Apple forums, you will find it is UTTERLY creaking under the weight of people with countless problems to do with wake/sleep/hdmi/thunderbolt/laptop display related issues! Most of the users had no problems with this under the previous version of OS X. The release of 10.10.1 made no difference to most of these people, myself included!! Yet when you search the web, it's not even MENTIONED in articles that claim to list the 10 MOST COMMON bugs in Yosemite!!!

I find it almost INCOMPREHENSIBLE, that after TWO MONTHS, huge amounts of people can barely get their MONITORS to work! For a vertically integrated company that makes BOTH the hardware and software, and charges a RIDICULOUS PREMIUM for inferior hardware, on the grounds that it is EASY to use, reliable and offers a superior user experience, I find this utterly APPALLING.

Their beta testing program clearly does NOT WORK PROPERLY. Hopefully, 10.10.2 might mean I can actually shutdown and re-boot my two month old mac without resetting PRAM each time!! That's if they even bother with this, given the amount of OTHER bugs they have to fix. This is NOT what I was expecting from APPLE. VERY disappointed :-(

What about the rest of the package?

I do wish Apple just made ONE good OS and stuck to it until it was really absolutely necessary to release something new. Like Mavericks was great, why didn't they just stick with it without really changing anything for, say, 5 years? There was nothing wrong with it, why change it? It's not like people were begging for new features or anything. And the UI looked fine, it's not like it was that outdated. Some people still use Windows XP because it was a great OS. I think performance and stability far outweighs features and a modern UI for a desktop OS.

Very well put.
Unfortunately, I still see looks in command,l with the downfall that in 10.10 it was a general downgrade.
Mavericks has been the best OS since Snow Leopard.
I'll join you in your wish for greater focus greater things, instead of looks.

Leave Steve out of this. What Steve would do is irrelevant since he is dead! You people should stop doing that. It shows a big amount of disrespect for Steve..

I don't know about you guys, but for me Yosemite has been very stable so far, and this has been happening with all my Macs. Maybe you have some kind of software that is incompatible or causing issues. Before starting blaming Tim and referring to Steve, maybe you should have a look at your software configuration and start analyzing what is going wrong with that. Just a suggestion...

Aperture is working great here. No issues at all running the latest beta.

I, too, sometimes feel the need to mention Steve Jobs; to mention people who are no longer with Apple; and so on.

The OS X release cycle as it has been for the past several years:
Spend 7 months not being able to do basic things on your computer riddled with bugs, lags, crashes, performance issues and instability problems. Spend 5 months enjoying the OS that finally kind of works well enough to use. Upgrade to new release. Repeat. I do wish Apple just made ONE good OS and stuck to it until it was really absolutely necessary to release something new. Buggy software updates move new hardware. If your two year old hardware kept getting better, you wouldn't' upgrade in year 3.

Monitors are cheap, perhaps try another, or a different cable.

I'm not a developer but got offered via an email from Apple.

Hmm. Is this an open beta now or am I an official developer?

Since networking didn't need fixing, one wonders what they changed to break things.

Well said. I won't be rushing to upgrade to the next new OS X release anymore no matter how much the new features are enticing. I'm so tired of spending endless hours fixing bugs. I think at some point one needs to say, this OS X runs great on my Mac, I'm happy with it, and resist jumping on the new OS X bandwagon. Same goes with iOS, I'm won't be going near iOS 9.

Handoff, AirDrop, Continuity... lots of network-related features are new in Yosemite, and problematic for some situations and configurations, it seems.

Yeah, but it seems networking is broken even when those features aren't enabled.

"Legal" does not necessarily equate "ethical".

Good point, It's not the one who knows the most about law, but the one who presents the best case who wins. Nothing to do with ethics, just the rule of law.

A similar build 14C81h has just been seeded to public beta testing program for os x 10.10.2.
