Performance is largely fixed on 15 Pro Max — no longer runs like molasses at least!

Update: still frame drops and whatnot after a few minutes of usage, but better overall
Thank goodness. It was really running slowly so I def am updating right now. I just had to have the clear theme. :)

Apple today provided developers with a revised version of the first iOS 26 beta for testing purposes. It's not clear what's new in the updated beta, but it may address a critical bug or two. The update is only available for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models, so if you're running iOS 26 on an iPhone 14 or earlier, you won't see the revised beta.

Registered developers can download the new beta software through the Settings app on each device.

iOS 26 includes all of the new features that were shown off at Apple's keynote event on Monday. Apple debuted its Liquid Glass design, which you'll find throughout iOS 26 and Apple's other software updates.

Along with a refreshed design, there are a long list of new features in iOS 26, including changes to Messages, Phone, Safari, Music, Photos, Camera, and more.

While today's beta is limited to developers to give them time to learn the new features and adjust their apps, Apple will provide public beta testers with a chance to try the software in July. iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, watchOS 26, and visionOS 26 are set to launch to the public in September.

It seems they fixed the standby bug, the one that prevented the clock from updating.

This is probably the what Apple wanted to release as their true 1st developer beta for iOS 26. Instead they rushed to release what was available on Monday to save the stock and silence all the negative publicity about lack of Siri AI features, and distract all the geeks unhappy with liquid glass icons and what have you... That's why they won't call it B2

I’m on an iPhone 16PM. Anyone got a trick to get the “unable to check for update” to go away? Tried restarting multiple times

Has anyone with a 16 Pro Max, featuring a black charging screen, successfully installed this version?
I had the same issue on my 16 Pro Max. I don't live near an Apple Store, but I called support and there was nothing they could do, so they sent a replacement device.

Unplugging/replugging the battery would probably fix it too. When I worked at the Apple store, we would do that anytime someone brought in a device with an "unable to power on" issue like that. It fixed the issue almost every single time.

16PM here too with the same issue. Haven't been able to get it yet, after multiple reboots I always get the same error. If I can't get it by tomorrow I plan to download the IPSW from here.

Data for Apple Intelligence is downloading again.

Oof is that why my battery tanked so hard today? I updated quickly and left my apartment and my battery dropped faster than I’ve ever seen it. I know it won’t be improved until a few betas down but wow 😂

No, but we tested on one of our 15 Pros and the installation is now fixed. We had tried twice before and had to go to DFU mode and restore back to 18.5. So far, so good. It's actually very snappy on the phone. Time to start testing. Good luck!

Behaving MUCH better on a 15. Nothing in common with the previous beta performance-wise everything looks fixed. No longer heating up like crazy either

Did you try a hard reboot? ( The vol up ,down, hold power deal). One update of 18 .x I asked Siri to restart and it went blank and was totally dead acting. Nothing could see it, could not power on. Went through the hard reboot trying to get to DFU actually and it finally came alive. Apparently, that is still a functioning process even when phone appears dead.

Don’t know if you’ve already seen the fix for this, but the solution was addressed in the thread, “iPhone 16 Pro Max stuck at "Charge Battery" screen on startup after installing iOS 26” You need to plug your phone into your Mac/PC, then do the usual steps for hard reset to go into DFU mode, BUT, add an additional step. After the phone turns off, press and hold the down volume button for about three seconds and then release the home button. You should see the phone go into DFU mode shortly after. I have tried to install the beta on my 15PM five times without success and have reinstalled iOS to 18.5 successfully each time following those steps. Now the revised beta is live I’ll try again!

After the update my battery went down as well pretty quick. AI and some more background processing as it seems.
Calmed down afterwards.

Kudos for updating such an early beta and then leaving the house 😆 risky business
