"Maybe this means a mid-late August release? I heard some MR members had their cards charged for the Up-To-Date discs"

I know I've been charged 10 bucks. Man, I'd be so stoked to see a 8/24 release! (especially since it's the day after me b-day!)

64-bit Kernel?

Can someone PLEASE explain to me this 64-bit kernel thing?

I have a Mac Pro 1,1, and I don't know what a kernel is or what that means.

I have 64-bit Windows 7 beta running on my Mac Pro just fine, so why can't Snow Leopard run in 64-bit? Will Apple handle this? Does that mean that 64-bit software won't take advantage of my 64-bit processors?

Then what will Snow Leopard even add to my Mac Pro? I know my questions are all over the place, but I really don't understand this 32-bit kernel but 64-bit OS thing. If someone can explain it in layman terms, that'd be awesome :D

that would be madness if my mac pro, which has "64-bit workstation" written on the outside of the box, is not able to run the 64 bit version of the OS. that would be madness. Does anyone with a new mac pro or any of the newer machines have the new build loaded onto their machines in 64 bit?

so if this is the golden master release, i.e the one that gets copied and printed to DVDs and sold. dar dar dar.. Does this release have the highly anticipated, and rumoured, and even expected.. marble UI?

Not that im bothered if marble UI exists or not, but i can see it already, a whole buncha peoples are gonna be on here, 5 minutes past release time, complaining that apple "is a bunch o ball, cos their OS doesnt look nice"

So my question, again, is Marble UI included on this? lol.. :)

:apple:

Looking forward to hearing more as more developers install it and word gets out.

Hope it's not as buggy as Leopard was when it launched though, if it is GM.

I had 10a421 running in 64-bit on my early 2008 3.06 iMac.

Not sure about 10a432 yet, still downloading...

So whose installing or downloading the latest version at the moment?

I don't think that is right.

Anyways, does anyone know if Snow Leopard solved the issue with UniBody Macs making a popping noise with the speakers? Thanks.

hahahaha

Apple laptop speakers have been making popping noises on battery power since at least 2003. My 12" PowerBook certainly had the same problem. It's not going to be fixed, it's just a byproduct of disabling power to the speaker amplifier to save battery.

well what the hell. I can hardly believe that the mac pro can't run this OS in 64 bit. This is upsetting.

I wonder what other things will be crippled on my ancient two-year old machine.

There's a fix, I have an early 2009 MBP and don't have this problem but I did encounter a thread about it accidentally the other day with a link to a webpage with the script or whatever that makes a "blank" sound every 10 seconds to prevent the speakers from going into stand by, thus disabling the popping noise. Tried googleing for it just now and didn't find it on the first page but I'm sure you can search for it yourself and find it within 5 minutes

If it's been seeded to developers doesn't it mean it isn't really final yet? They're still testing for bugs and compatibility with this release, no?

Before they were testing bugs within the OS. Now, I think they want developers to test for bugs in their apps moreso than before (of course, if any showstoppers are found, they'll make another build).

Yeah, could us regular folk get some feedback on this "no 64-bit in Mac Pro" nonsense? What does it mean -- is Apple not supporting 64-bit on my 64-bit early 2008 Mac Pro?

Also, how long did it take for Leopard to go from Gold Master to sale?
