hahahaha

Apple laptop speakers have been making popping noises on battery power since at least 2003. My 12" PowerBook certainly had the same problem. It's not going to be fixed, it's just a byproduct of disabling power to the speaker amplifier to save battery.

But I'm sure, eventually, a firmware update will be issued to solve this. It just does not sound like it should happen. And it does not only happen on battery power.

Yeah, could us regular folk get some feedback on this "no 64-bit in Mac Pro" nonsense? What does it mean -- is Apple not supporting 64-bit on my 64-bit early 2008 Mac Pro?

Also, how long did it take for Leopard to go from Gold Master to sale?

The 64-bit kernel can be tested on the following configurations:

Early 2008 Mac Pro
MacPro3,1
Capable

10A421a is currently running 64-bit on my 15" non-Unibody 2008 Macbook Pro, so I'd be very suprised if the final version doesn't.

MacBook Pro 15/17
MacBookPro4,1
Capable

UniBody MacBook Pro 15
MacBookPro5,1
Capable

What is wrong with you people?

Why isn't it acceptable for both of these companies to put out good products?

Windows 7 is a quality operating system. Period.

Before they were testing bugs within the OS. Now, I think they want developers to test for bugs in their apps moreso than before (of course, if any showstoppers are found, they'll make another build).

Ya, I was just about to post the same thing.

Anyway, this is pretty exciting. Can't wait for this to hit store shelves.

Looking at recent OS releases by Apple, a late month, Friday release seems most likely. I would put my money on August 28th OR September 25th.

why would they do august, if they already said it's coming out in september?

just because they've done something one way a few times in the past doesn't mean they can't change it.

If it's so close to production stage, why wait off till the end of september?

Can someone PLEASE explain to me this 64-bit kernel thing?

I have a Mac Pro 1,1, and I don't know what a kernel is or what that means.

I have 64-bit Windows 7 beta running on my Mac Pro just fine, so why can't Snow Leopard run in 64-bit? Will Apple handle this?

Apple would need to make 64-bit drivers for all the components in the Mac Pro 1,1 - which they haven't chosen to do. There are many other machines they are not doing this for too - Including MacBooks, Mac minis and several MacBook Pros and iMacs.

On a Mac Pro 1,1 you will get the same 64 bit support as Leopard from the OS - plus almost all 64 bit system applications (not just Chess).

You will miss out on the TLB performance improvement. And the kernel won't run in 64 bit mode.

It's described reasonably in this article:

I'm thinking it's electromagnetic interference. When a vacuum cleaner or something that draws a lot of power and has a good-sized magnetic field, my speakers pop. Especially when the furnace comes on.

Could it be a cordless phone or cell phone? What about a Samsung Monitor? iHome? Just trying to list everything electronic around my laptop. A light?

No, but if you have a legal copy of SL, you can have it from the Developer's website.

So I do have a legit copy of SL and even on the dev site, i only see an area to download build 10a411? I dont see 10a43x whatever this goldmaster is? whats up???

It's not on the dev site, its on the ADC site.

who cares..., don't worry, be happy...

it is just that historically MS delivers a lot of bloated crapware, and w7 may be no different...

to believe that w7 is good, is to believe that the chevy Volt can do 230 mpg. You need to get use to the thought... that is all.

that would be madness if my mac pro, which has "64-bit workstation" written on the outside of the box, is not able to run the 64 bit version of the OS. that would be madness. Does anyone with a new mac pro or any of the newer machines have the new build loaded onto their machines in 64 bit?

There is only one version of SL and it is 64bit; it will load the 64 bit kernel but if your hardware is not up to it the 64bit extensions will not run. My iMac loads the kernel but not the extensions but has no problems running 64bit programs like GeekBench. In fact the 32 bit version of that program will not run. Hope this helps... There is a lot of smoke and heat going on about this issue and not much light.

I know the new version is mostly under the covers enhancements, but I hope there is something new in the GUI as well.

The only GUI tweak there are the wallpapers and the new Dock Expose, which we already seen from WWDC. Apple isn't doing any major GUI tweaks, that's possible reserved for 10.7 which could come out a year from now.

Argh, can't install on a blank drive. Gotta dig up a dual layer disc somewhere now.
