This is by far the worst iPadOS, or iOS beta version I used, and I’m been using bata versions since 10 years. Freezes constantly, just modifying the volume when watching a YouTube, or using an app. I already restarted my iPad 4 times since this last beta today. Using latest M1 iPad. Damn Apple what the heck are you doing?

Going back to iPadOS 15 until Apple can figure their sh*t!

Anyone getting “unable to check for updates” after installing ipados 16.1 beta2 ? I am getting this. It is under Settings/General/Software update
I'm getting it after updating to iOS 16.1 on my iPhone
Reboot didn't fix
Removing profile didn't fix
Putting profile back didn't fix
Deleting TestFlight apps (apparently was a fix from a several years old thread) didn't fix
Ugh

Am greeting the same on both my iPad Air and 5th gen
I’ve reported it in the feedback app id: FB11518195

yup, removed the profile, same issue. Added the profile back and still same error.

At least im on the latest beta for now. I noticed small random issues with previous build of iPadOS 16, but nothing serious. Stable enough for me to use it on my primary iPad
Works now!

It makes no sense for Apple to delay iPadOS 16 on devices that can’t even use Stage Manager. To call this “a big year for iPadOS” is silly. For the vast majority of iPad users who aren’t using an M1 model there’s no major changes being introduced to warrant it’s own release. We’re getting a weather app, the ability to edit and delete iMessages, some tweaks to various apps, some new Memoji poses, and a new font for the lock screen. We’re not even gaining the ability to customize the lock screen or use lock screen widgets or the redesigned notification position and options. Apple should have released iPadOS 16 on time along side iOS 16 and then rolled out Stage Manager and whatever else they’re doing later with iPadOS 16.1 at the iPad event.

shhhhh! You're making too much sense! lol, I don't even get stage manager. I tried it on the MacOS beta. So we have what like 3 ways to manage apps now? Dock, Stage Manager and Spaces (which I don't even use). I thought Apple was famous for simplifying. Is Stage Manager going to replace the dock and spaces? If so, then maybe that makes sense down the road, but right now, I can't even put windows side-by-side without going into another Space for some bizarre reason or using a 3rd party app. So I basically ignore these "features"

Stage manager is so broken for me on iPadOS 16.1 (20B5045d). Many times the home bar doesn’t work. Thje slide over to see other apps doesnt work more than 70% of the time now. Bringing up the dock works less than 50% of the time.

I starting using iPadOS 16 public beta as soon as it came out on 11” M1 iPad Pro(I had iPad for less than 1 week so I have essentially only run iPadOS 16 public betas).

Hate to say for me this update is pure garbage

You are correct. Its even worse when you have the Magic Keyboard attached. After a while the Task Bar does not come back up at all when called for. It's a hot mess. I have kept sending feedback to Apple on this. An hour ago I had to move back iPadOS 16.1 Beta 1 and things are much better. I do not use Stage Manager at all anymore so moving back a version has made things better.

How did you move back… I need to do that as I only use iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and this is horrible. TIA

I moved back to iPadOS 16.1 Beta 1 (From Beta 2) by downloading the IPSW file for that version on my Mac. Then, used the Finder and selected the device. Hold Option Key and Choose Software update. Choose the downloaded IPSW file to update from / downgrade to and this will complete without any data loss.

BTW, the battery life got way worse with this latest update. Noticing about half of my battery life going away overnight. On average, it's latest about half as long as it did with the previous beta.

I have this problem as well, and I’m looking to follow your steps. Where did you download the Beta 1 IPSW from? Apple’s Dev portal doesn’t seem to list older IPSWs.

I googled yesterday and cant find the IPSW for 16.1 beta 1. Do you have a link? TIA

With previous beta it was running pretty stable on my M1 iPad Pro 12.9.
First couple of days with this beta seemed ok, but i experience now more and more issues, for example: delayed touch screen responses, just random crashes when multitasking

This beta feels really a step back compared to the previous one. Never worked with an 8th version of a (dev)beta that is this unstable.

I agree 100%. I have no idea how it went backwards. Very sluggish with a lot go glitches.

Absolutely it’s in my on Macbook.

seems to have fixed the Stage manager issue and FWIW feels much smoother than beta 2.

I greatly appreciate the help!
Apple released a new Beta 16.1 today for the iPad. I updated to the new version and after a little bit of Magic Keyboard struggle upfront, things appear to be running normally with the Magic Keyboard attached. I have NOT attempted to test out the Stage Manager at all.

I updated as well. Better responsiveness vs Public beta 2. The Stage manager is still glitchy works better than Public Beta 2 but still not as good as Public Beta 1. I am still testing.

I do expect another fast release of the next update, LOL

Hmm, I rebooted again after a little testing and Public beta 3 and ran smoother but closed Magic KB and re-opened the iPad and Stsger manager doesn’t work….grrrrr

There is something going on with the Stage Manager and Magic Keyblard and Apple Pencil combination. None of the three are reliable in this series of iPadOS betas. Yes, I understand this is beta and erratic performance is expected however, I have yet to see a new feature (Stage Manager) perform this bad and this late in the beta game. Today’s beta improved over beta 2. Agreed. Now looking forward to the next beta release. Just glutten for more punishment.

I just rolled back to Public beta 1(beta 7).

I have no idea how they are moving backwards on stability with these releases. The fact they Stage Manager is getting worse esp with the Apple Magic KB is crazy. You would think iPad Pro M1 with Apple Magic KB would be a combo they would be working with a lot.

I cant see an early October release for iPadOS 16 at this point. I have not seen Apple have this many issues so close to release like you stated above.

I wish Apple would add Finder to iPadOS. I don’t understand them not doing this as well. SMH
