I just rolled back to Public beta 1(beta 7).

I have no idea how they are moving backwards on stability with these releases. The fact they Stage Manager is getting worse esp with the Apple Magic KB is crazy. You would think iPad Pro M1 with Apple Magic KB would be a combo they would be working with a lot.

I cant see an early October release for iPadOS 16 at this point. I have not seen Apple have this many issues so close to release like you stated above.

I wish Apple would add Finder to iPadOS. I don’t understand them not doing this as well. SMH
One last thing to note, in my opinion, is that Stage Manager is total crap and provides no productivity improvement over the traditional split screen multitasking on an iPad. Stage Manager, even in its finished stage, will be a pain in the ass to use. I have new appreciation for the slit screen method. I dare not say but will do so and that is that the iPad (up to M1 iPad Pro at least) will never behave like a computer. To me, the iPad is STILL a very large iPhone which has its benefits but it has nothing on a Mac. I will now rest in peace until the next beta. Ha!

I agree Stage Manager leaves a lot to be desired. It is not as smooth and easy to use as it should be at this time. I find resizing windows to be more difficult than it needs to be. The slide over to other apps/home bar does not work well with all apps- sometimes not even the Apple apps. The copy/paste/select text for moving just does work- I just tried to move a sentence in this post. Can’t do it with my Apple Magic KB.

This was my first new iPad in more than 7 yrs, I was excited to try iPadOS 16 with the promise “it could be laptop replacement”. I will admit I never expected it would replace my MacBook Pro. My hope was it could be a solid more portable device-a laptop mini so to speak.

Apple is known for making things easy and smooth but has failed with iPadOS. They tried to invent a whole new experience but Stage Manager is too clunky,- I like the concept but until we get a truly easy way to use and access the file system ala Finder, it will only be a “larger “ iPhone like you said.
As an iPhone on steroids it is great for media consumption, surfing the web and video. I just love the 11in iPad Pro and imagine the 12.9 is a beauty too.

The status of iPadOS 16 is at a sad point. I may need to play with Split View more and dump Stage manager for a while- maybe the newer beta ie Public Beta 3 are better in that regard.

Have you tried the newest beta?
Yes I have and am using it at present. It appears that the Magic Keyboard issues are fixed. One thing I did was to ensure that I updated the iPad without being connected to MK. Once the update was complete then I attached it back to the MK. Everything works fine as far as the MK goes.
I have NOT tried out Stage Manager as it is not very easy to manage and free form window sizing is not available. At this point, I am happy with the original Split Mode.
I recommend that you update to the new beta and I believe that your MK will be fine this time. Let me know how things work out for you. Thanks.
