Another big Apple blog wrote that the brick occurs on phones with enabled „back tap“. Seems strange.

Can someone confirm who was affected by the brick?

I haven't, thank god - always important to stay calm as more solutions are surfacing, like the one you just mentioned

I will give it a shot now, thanks buddy
so my phone rebooted and ive got the same spinning dial. im downloading beta 1 again to try it with that

Make sure after that to turn off Back TAP under accessories -> Touch-> Tap (at the bottom of list) that is what online they are saying is the cause for people updating to beta 2.

phone is already bricked so i cant access the OS to turn the setting off.. those who can access the device through apple configurator might be able to disable it with a mobileconfig file if they cant do it via the phone itself

awaiting data recovery, was able to restore using apple configurator without hopefully losing data @MLVC @apn3agr

Looks like the iOS 17.3 beta 2 boot loop is caused by a crash in backboardd. Based on the crash log, it should only happen for those who have the "Back Tap" feature enabled.

This is located here that you can make sure it's not enabled before updating to beta 2. (most probably don't use it)

1. Open the Settings app on your device.
2. Scroll down and visit Accessibility settings.
3. Go to Touch settings.
4. Scroll to the bottom Back Tap is default OFF.

Back Tap is turned on for my 15PM and it updated without a problem.

the fix that worked for me to restore back to beta 1 without losing data

requires mac with apple configurator 2
requires IPSW from any other safe site for IPSW

Put your phone into recovery mode
Connect it to your Mac
Open Apple configurator 2
Drag Drop the IPSW onto the device
Select REVIVE
Follow any popups

The screen will go black through the process, it hasnt frozen, tap screen just doesnt wake it up, use the PWR button to wake it up to see progress.

Hope it works for you all!

There been at least 3 that have confirmed it doesn't always happen related to back tap. It could be due that the installer package needs to be remade and updated on servers.

Alternatively (just reinstall beta 1 again as this post says.

If your iPhone has been bricked during the update to iOS 17.3 beta 2:
- Download the iOS 17.3 beta 1 IPSW on your Mac (https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2023W...DC79504/iPhone16,2_17.3_21D5026f_Restore.ipsw)
- Plug iPhone into Mac
- Press volume up, then volume down, then press and hold the side button until the recovery mode screen shows up
- Use Finder to restore the IPSW (in Finder, hold down Option when clicking the restore button to select the IPSW)
- Your iPhone should be successfully restored without any data loss (see reply!)

Please note I haven't seen anyone complaining their iPadOS 17.3 beta 2 update failed before Apple yanked both. The Back Tap is only present in iOS 17.x.
My iPad Mini 6 is running just fine.

Update from today
