Does app-thinning work retro-actively?
So, when upgrading to iOS 9 from iOS 8, will I end up with new free capacity or do I need to reinstall apps or update them instead?
Most likely the app-thinning will take place when an app is updated.

Bonus question: If my thinned apps on the iPhone get synched to my Mac's iTunes library, will it download the rest of the app? Because when switching or adding devices, you'd otherwise need to re-download the app or something else needs to happen...
The question whether this will matter in practice. When you add a new device, copying all apps to that device will probably take about as long as downloading the part of the apps that are missing.

I like my iTunes library to be the complete offline-backup of all my apps etc, hence my strong disapproval of IAPs, as they don't backup. (awful... restoring IAPs in every app itself one by one... Also, dependent on the server... Seriously?)
I don't think you have to restore every IAP purchase, at least in my experience I only ever had a handful of cases where I had to restore IAP purchases. iTunes already asks you whether you want to backup apps that are on the device but not in iTunes. And already today the question is whether previous versions of apps are kept inside iTunes if you have older devices that can only run the older versions.

Well, as it is right now, my Mac can be offline and when I synch my iPhone manually with iTunes it will upload the apps from iPhone to iTunes lib (upon confirmation by the user), so the apps get transferred to iTunes, they may have never been in iTunes or simply be updates to apps that I never downloaded on my computer.

App XYZ is in iTunes lib and iPhone
App gets updated from version 1 to 2
I update the app from my iPhone
I don't update automatically on my Mac, so on the next synch iTunes asks me to transfer purchases, that is when it downloads the updated app from iPhone.

See what I mean?
Just making sure we're on the same page here. :)

I know but I don't think they've updated iTunes yet for this situation. We'll find out later but from what I understand, iTunes should be downloading the full version from the App Store in order to be able to handle syncing it to all of your devices but it might pull from your iPhone in case the App Store isn't accessible.

Is it possible that if watchos is downloading it prevents us from seeing ios?

Would be logical considering ios cant restart until watchos is done...

Update to this from what? What would be what defines whether you should update to this or it's a waste of time for you?
well i just saw that the music tab isn't included in beta 2...if they improve battery life and speed then ill give it a try. i could care less about the music tab

Sounds like simply following a thread like this will help you with that decision then.

Help! I am getting this error message and I am on wifi with a solid connection! And my iPhone still isn't seeing the update....
