The fact that Apple was ok with creating a OS feature that allowed Apple apps bypass third-party firewalls, security tools, and VPN apps concerns me deeply.
That is fixed in the upcoming release of BigSur in case you didn’t know. So once this new Big Sur update comes out little snitch will be able to block all processes

Still haven’t upgraded from Catalina.

How does it compare on speed? I don’t really feel like I need any of the new features, and my main concern is not slowing down my 2019 MBP.
I’ll be honest, on my 2015 late iMac it runs terribly. I did a clean install and very little installed and running but it takes about 5 mins to boot and be usable. It gets to the UI quick enough but once I’ve started logging in it’s another 4 mins before things will respond properly.

Tried stopping everything from loading at start up, no difference.

It could just be my Mac but Catalina didn’t have these issues. I keep debating about downgrading but it took me a few days to sort everything and keep praying the next update will sort it.

In addition applications take forever to load. It just gets stuck on verifying the application everytime.

What are you using for storage?
A 1TB (7200-rpm) hard drive, 1TB Fusion Drive, 2TB Fusion Drive, or 256/512/1024 SSD?

Note the 1 TB Fusion paired with only a 32 GB SSD compared to the the 2TB Fusion Drive is paired with 128 GB SSD. :)

Surprised and disappointed with Big Sur so far. Encouraged by the 11.0.1 initial release number (it's fixed, right?), I upgraded my Catalina machine, got kernel panics and had to start from scratch (suggested by Apple geniuses). That never happened before, been using macOS since Tiger... since I had to reinstall I decided to go back to Mojave, got my Dashboard and 32-bit support back and not missing much actually (definitely not the "shady" icons).

I don't remember a second release candidate from Apple, it shows internal struggle, more than the rapid progression to 11.2 (so far). The thing wasn't fully baked when released, and they're still rushing it. I'm confident they'll figure it out, but it's better to wait this one out.

As a tester I haven't seen Big Sur 11.2 beta cycle really any different, except for the long pause between Dec 16th and January 13th releases. So only had 2 beta, and 2 RC releases.

The most recent betas fixed the only real issues I had been having, which was bluetooth misbehaving with my Apple AirPods, and my Wacom tablet. I would get random disconnects so often that it made using these bluetooth peripherals basically not worth it. The betas fixed this, and as of the most current 11.2 they are working perfectly. I never had any other issues with my M1.

Okay, I know there are bigger Big Sur bugs to squash, but how is this weird UI bug still appearing in a .2 release?...

I hope it fixes drag and drop pictures from Safari to Messages. Or just sending pictures from within Messages via txt. I get app. freezes that developed in the last two weeks.

If this doesn't fix Safari's sluggishness and long time opening the bookmark menu I won't be very happy.
It would be nice if it got rid of constantly asking me to sign in even though I'm signed in

I bit the bullet and upgraded. Heh.

Everything looks great on my iMac so far. One thing of note is the firmware version is still stuck on 170.0.0.0 as it has been for the past few years. This is a known issue on 2015 iMac 17,1 units; it's just surprising that this STILL isn't fixed; 170.0.0.0 was current back in the Mojave days.

Ahh well, as long as the machine works correctly I suppose all is well.

The release notes here mention bluetooth specifically. Have you tried running the betas of this version? Has anybody with an M1 mini and previous bluetooth issues reported that this update has fixed things?
Just had my mouse disconnect after waking from sleep (on RC2). I'll have to see if I continue getting disconnects. It is very frustrating.

Is it stable enough yet, or shall we wait until end of year? Currently on Mojave and Catalina seems to be loathed by all the mac community.

So one user here is suggesting BT remains problematic. Have any other m1 mini users installed this second RC and seen if the BT issues are fixed?

Still haven't upgraded from Sierra.

I'm sure speed-wise, it competitive with 10.15, 11.

Would be actually interesting to know if anyone has got replacement Mac which has fixed the BT / WiFi connectivity issues for them? Is there a % of cases where hardware is actually faulty?
I'd troubleshoot this by:

1. Clean install Big Sur.
2. Try different WiFi routers. Take it to Starbucks and then try a friends WiFi. See if there is some issue with a specific device.
3. Call Apple and see if they can do remote diagnostics.

Yes I know, thanks.

The fact that during the creation of a major new OS release multiple layers of Apple management where convinced this Apple app exclusion ‘feature’ was a good idea to implement in terms of security and privacy makes me wonder how strong their ability and conviction in those areas really is.

how has your experience been on RC1 of 11.2 so far ? in relation to BT
Magic mouse, Apple trackpad and Logitech k780 BT device disconnects, occasional mouse lag and issues waking M1 Mini from sleep from connected BT devices seem to have been addressed. No issue with 11.2 RC1, just installed RC2 to try (wifi 6 mesh, no BT streaming audio devices).

I love macOS, I love that it's based on BSD. I've been using it since Panther.

I also love when things work right.

Catalina and Big Sur have been *******.

Two notable serious issues right now:

1) Notes.app see's 65%ish CPU usage burning battery on M1 and other machines, they spend all this time working on great hardware and then blow it. The average user isn't diagnosing like these guys: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-notes-using-cpu.2268511/ - the average user just says my M1 battery sucks.

2) Kernel Panic on reboot. Happens on all 3 Macs I own, I know it came in Catalina around 10.15.5 - have Intel and M1 Macs, from Catalina to Big Sur, all different software stacks (some controlled by work, some just mine), all have the issue. Can't believe it hasn't been addressed.
e.g. https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...n-watchdog-timeout-no-checkins-from-watchdogd

I need these things fixed. It's driving me insane.

How can such basic bugs slip buy and be unfixed for months.

Their primary focus is selling hardware, software is what they sell along with. They have been great at both through time, but so long as people buy the hardware, they are fine taking months to fix issues with their flagship machines, often into the next year by the time the next major release is scheduled. And a sample of people here on this forum find that acceptable. I would say most in the world are okay with it, going by the sales numbers and Apple's refusal to get around this habit.
