Curious iPhone X testers, has this beta helped with (if you have it) the speaker crackling issue? I'm on my 2nd replacement, all 3 have had the issue and Apple said this will be fixed in a future update... Thanks!

Downloaded 3rd beta of 11.2.5 however had to restore back to 11.2.1. Battery life was killing me. How have the recent beta releases been relating to battery life. I'm on iPhone X.

My X had reduced battery life on betas 2 and 3, but all’s been well since beta 5. I say give it a shot.

No. They should test all this crap well in-house and then release it, instead of making users do their job for them. That's what we pay them for.

Why don’t you opt out of the beta program?

Any word on the reduced power settings for older batteries that Tim spoke about? Is that going to be part of this release?

And for all the naysayers about so many betas, maybe they are doing extensive testing for performance on older devices?

Tim Cook confirmed it will be released to developers early next month. So best guess is 11.3 will be that plus another feature that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Maybe iMessages in iCloud finally?

that might be (I don't understand whats taking so long) but I know it wasn't that, Im pretty sure it was more things to do with performance, like monitoring battery status, choosing to throttle your cpu or not (he warns to keep throttled) and stuff like that. It is interesting that we finally get some control over the device, but I am still waiting for some iOS 11 features haha and iOS 12, now thanks to the iPhone X BETTER have dark mode. (they did confirm that the software on the iPhone X by this time next year (which was said in sept so aka iOS 12) was going to bring major changes to the iPhone X, being quite different then now) see what happens lol

The crackling at full speaker volume is a software thing? I have had the same issue but it didn't bother me much so I wasn't sure if I wanted to go through the hassle of getting a replacement.

I agree- keeping fingers crossed for true dark mode similar to AppleTV (not just accessibility "invert colors"), and iMessages in iCloud. Guess we'll find out soon!

For iOS 11, it's too little, too late.

Considering some earlier IOS versions had a lot worse performance and security issues (like 9 for older devices), not sure what you are saying.

Almost all IOS 11 versions have had performance issues with earlier devices in X.0 and X.1 versions, some pretty extreme, like IOS 4 that rendered the 3G completely unusable in any one for a whole month (till they fixed it mostly, but it never recovered full function, that was the worst).

Early IOS 10 had its share of complaints but was better than IOS 7 8 with older devices.

In fact the issues with the few previous versions meant that public betas were release as of IOS 9.

People seem to have very short memories.

Maybe it’s time to admit we all have rose tinted glasses when it comes to iOS and maybe it isn’t really that good?

Again, 11.2.5 has to be the beta for a beta (if that makes sense). It’s all fixes under the hood so I wonder if it’s getting whatever’s needed for iCloud messages, etc. ready and then 11.3 beta end of the month? I don’t think this will be a public release given how many beta versions.

I usually always defend Apple but to be honest the rollout of iOS 11 and High Sierra has been a disaster. Sierra and iOS 10 were much more stable and less buggy. When they fix something, they break something else. While my 10.13.2 install is working properly, there are so many console errors I'm getting that weren't there in 10.12.6. At least I'm glad that they're taking more time with these point releases. I don't know what is going on at Apple but it is very clear that Apple needs fresh leadership. It's more focused on meeting deadlines and profits than making everything work properly. It's also become clear that the iPhone X needed more time before being released to market. They simply couldn't afford to wait any longer because the S8 had been out since March or so. I hope they right the ship before they really start to lose consumer confidence.

I really regret updating my 7 plus bought in March 2017 to iOS 11. It was a great phone on 10.3.3. Really snappy and very stable and I only had to charge it every other day. With a healthy battery it just drains even when I'm not using it. It used to be that if it was at 100% when I went to bed it would be at 100% or 99% in the morning. Now it's around 93-95% when I wake up. Something in the background is using battery. I refuse to shut off hey Siri, background refresh, et cetera since that was the reason I bought a plus besides the camera. To be able to fully use every feature and still enjoy great battery life.

I understand that the entire industry got taken by surprise with Meltdown and Spectre which definitely diverted resources towards fixing those urgent vulnerabilities while neglecting others. Still I think it's time shareholders start calling for new leadership. We need another visionary at Apple, not just someone who can deliver profits.

How many public betas or developer betas typically happen before the public release occurs?

That's what everyone said about: iOS 7,8 & 10 as far as I can remember. 9 was pretty wel received imo. iOS 6 was decent but was broken because of the state of Apple Maps. Can't remember previous versions.
9 was pretty bad for variety of people as well. It's pretty much every version, in particular in the early days, and even for a while longer until much closer to the end.

No particular set number really.

where is 11.2.3 and 11.2.4 though

or are they gonna rename this version 11.2.3 instead of 11.2.5 before release

I really wonder why they did not name it 11.2.3. Its very awkward to me... Or dont they hire people that can count till ten anymore?

I just got an X a few days ago. What is this speaker crackling?

Maybe they’re Monty Python fans? Remember the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch from The Holy Grail? The guy kept counting 1, 2, 5!!! instead of 3.

My 2¢ anyway.
