He even promised to open FaceTime to everyone. Where are we with that one?

I think there were some unforeseen licensing issues that caused a few delays initially but it was probably the VirnetX patent law suit loss that killed this in the end - FaceTime ran through a proxy for a good few releases rather than peer to peer just to try and work around this.

Is anyone happily using the public beta on their main iPhone without any major issues?

I am using PB5 on my iPhone 7, no major issues. However, there are also no major incentives to run the beta this time around, as iOS 12, imho, is effectively a maintenance fix for iOS 11. Unless you really want to test a specific iOS 12 feature, you can stick to iOS 11 for another month, while Apple finish tweaking the beta.

Yup. Same problem here.
Also having some severe performance issues on the iPhone X. Apps sometimes take a few seconds before they actually open.
Same issues. iPhone X also.

This happened to me too! A shutdown and restart fixed the issue.
Several shut downs and restarts have not helped mine. Submitting a report.

This beta is freezing all over the shop for me. It’s weird. Apps are freezing on launch, notification centre is freezing when attempting to pull it down. Lock screen has frozen. Icon animations freezing mid animation. Even the share sheet is showing loading spinners in Safari. This is the buggiest beta yet. Just when releases should be getting more stable.

Oddly, I still have the update icon notification on Settings even though I've already updated.

Performance on my X seems fine now. At first it was taking more than 15 seconds to launch apps. Now after 30 minutes or so it's back to normal speed without issue.

I’m thinking it has pulled. Not showing for me as well. Was earlier but not anymore.

Yes, Apple pulled the OTA update.

The only thing I'll say on the X is after you start launching most of your apps, it seems to do better over time not sure if its a caching issue or something like that..

When I go back to apps that i've opened it seems to improve ... Camera app is very very bad though..

LOL, Group FaceTime coming in time for WWDC 2019...maybe.

Nah, don’t be dramatic. We’ll probably see it in 12.2 or 12.3. Late this year or very early next year at the largest. No matter the case, it’s better for them to delay and refine it rather than release it sooner and have it be broken. This has been a hotly requested feature for years now, and the fact that it supports up to 32 people makes it great for business as well — they want it to be rock solid from the get-go if the feature will be used by both regular customers and businesses alike.
