Please tell me Ventura has finally fixed the laggy animations when switching desktops w/ three fingers... It's the only thing that's keeping my M1 Macbook Air from being a perfect device.
Are you seeing lag with the animations in Stage Manager? I’m seeing a slight lag and it’s worse on an external monitor. Was hoping this wasn’t my ‘18 MacBook Pro showing its age…

General

Known Issues

Important

Update to macOS 13 Ventura beta 6 or later before installing firmware updates for Apple Studio Display. (97624990)

AppKit

CoreGraphics

Deprecations

  • To improve security, CGImageCreate enforces parameter correctness on macOS 13 Ventura, iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16. Passing an incorrect CGImageByteOrderInfo is no longer supported, and will result in images failing to load. (94855401)

DeviceDiscoveryUI

Known Issues

  • Devices running beta 4 or later aren’t backwards compatible with devices running earlier beta versions. (95233878)

Mail

Known Issues

  • Moving a Remind Me message to another mailbox doesn’t remove the Remind Me banner. (93685824)

Metal

Known Issues

  • The MTLResource.gpuHandle is deprecated. (92862429)
Workaround: Use gpuResourceID instead, which functions as a replacement.

Metal Offline Compiler

Known Issues

  • MetalFX effect outputs aren’t designed to be consumed by the CPU. Outputting to a texture that is read only by the CPU might result in synchronization issues. (91515075)
Workaround: If a CPU reading of the MetalFX output is desired, instead of encoding the MetalFX effect as the last item in a command buffer, encode a dummy blit that consumes the MetalFX output texture (a 1-pixel region blit is fine) in the command buffer. After the command buffer with the dummy blit is finished, reading of the MetalFX effect output texture with CPU synchronizes correctly.

Networking

Deprecations

  • FTP is deprecated for URLSession and related APIs. Please adopt modern secure networking protocols such as HTTPS. (92623659)

Security

Resolved in macOS 13 Ventura beta 7

  • Fixed: You might encounter multiple prompts asking for user consent to manage apps when installing and upgrading apps. (94192721)

Stage Manager

Resolved in macOS 13 Ventura beta 7

  • Fixed: With Stage Manager active, windows continue as the key window and receive key events when minimized. (94169311)

StoreKit

Deprecations

  • Deprecated the SKDownload API and removed the option to upload nonconsumable in-app purchase assets for Apple to host. In addition, support for managing these assets in App Store Connect is no longer available as of April 2022. (89764253)

Swift

Known Issues

  • Network.framework resolved an issue that could cause NWBrowser, NWConnection, NWConnectionGroup, NWEthernetChannel, NWListener, and NWPathMonitor to trigger a retain cycle when various Handler blocks are set. Starting with macOS 13, iOS 16, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16, if software using Network.framework targets these releases as the minimum OS, the object releases any blocks they captured once cancelled, breaking the retain cycle. (89677097)
Workaround: For software targeting older versions, the retain cycle can be broken by setting the handler blocks to nil after canceling the object.

SwiftUI

Known Issues

  • Providing actions to a navigationTitle modifier has been deprecated. Use the toolbarTitleActions() modifier or ToolbarTitleActions type in a toolbar modifier instead. (93658035)

Texts and Fonts

Deprecations

  • ATS and ATSUI APIs are fully deprecated. Code using these APIs will fail to compile and link when the deployment target is set to 13. Code targeting earlier versions of macOS will continue to compile, link, and run. macOS 13 is the last release where code depending on ATS or ATSUI will run. All runtime functionality will be removed in next major release of macOS. (83581159)

Wallet

Known Issues

  • American Express cards might need to be removed and re-added to Wallet after updating to macOS 13 beta 6 or later. (97990752)

weird issue with PB5.
Up to PB4, my Mac Studio worked fine connecting a monitor from USB-C to HDMI.
After PB5, my monitor does not show anything when connected USB-C to HDMI.

It only works when I connect HDMI to HDMI.

Reported to Apple.

Oh god. I hope that gets fixed soon, as I have three monitors hooked up to my Mac Studio. One of them is HDMI to HDMI, and the other two are USB-C to DisplayPort.

Yeah, I hope it gets fixed soon.

Widgets on this release don't seem to work at all for me. None of them. I've tried restarting and just logging out/in, and still no dice.
Same here. My clock and calendar widgets work but all other widgets are blacked out or say 'Failed'.

My Clock Widget is the only one that's working. None of my other first or third party App Widgets are working.

Have you tried removing them and adding them again? Not ideal but if nothing else worked...

I was about to download the beta on my 14" MBP before reading the comments here. Now wondering if I should...beta 6 has been pretty solid and bug-free for me.

Haven't actually used the betas, but have read that it's written using the Swift UI and has items that don't line up, are partially cut off, and other interface quirks that indicate that it's not ready for prime time.
You mean like the placement of this un-clickable ”Remove” (cross) button in System Preferences -> Bluetooth for PS4 controllers that's been looking the same through all the iterations of Monterey? Screen Shot 2022-09-09 at 21.25.44.png

Removing and re-adding widgets didn't work for me. The first time opening the widgets editing screen froze my machine completely and I had to hard restart. Froze again the second time after about 30 seconds of editing them, but the widgets editor thankfully crashed out and I didn't have to hard restart.

I have to say despite some UI goofiness, Venture has been MUCH faster and smoother and overall more stable feeling than OS 12 was. And this is both on an M1 Air, and M1 14in Pro. I have much more faith in this OS getting sorted than I do in 12 ever getting proper.

I really don’t see the problem with the new System Settings new UI. The old one seemed dated. When I first used the new one I was like whoa what’s this. But I spent a hour with it and find it faster and more simple.
Agreed.

nothing

OS 13 = better for M1
OS 12 = better for Intel

My fan has been on nonstop on an i9 MBP

+1 Same here. My "Up Next" Calendar widget works (Medium), but the News, Weather, and Reminder widgets are all just solid black. :/
