Hopefully we’re moving to a weekly update cycle sooner than later… I find this release to be “usable” overall, but so many regressions or new bugs.

I can’t even run a repair in Disk Utility when booting up into Options. It just becomes non-responsive. I’ve even left it go for like 30-45 minutes to see if it eventually completed, but no.

What Mac is this with, the 2020 MBP? With my 2021 M1 Max 16” MBP it works (repair booting from options). Have you booted in safe mode and run Disk Utility in MacOS?

It is the 2020 M1 MBP, yeah. I haven’t tried Safe Mode, but Disk Utility seems to work fine while logged in under normal use.

New option for Stage Manager in this beta? One of the consequences of this option is that, in Mail, when you create a new email, the new message window and the main Mail window co-exist on the same 'stage', rather than the main window immediately diving into the 'cast'.

Where are you finding that? Thanks!

UPDATE: Never mind, found it. It's in the disastrous System Settings!

Had to roll it back to the previous version of beta to get the USB-C to HDMI working. This DB7 (PB5) is a mess.

Perhaps a reminder for some to point out the hierarchy of the system settings -> Desktop & Dock -> Stage Manager -> Customized when flagged.

As much as people dislike going from the older 25 or so settings Icons each representing a different section of system settings, Apple can finally explore how to change/enhance system settings with each beta. There is getting to more and more settings and the old icon view was tedious to wander though to locate what you needed to toggle.

It doesn't work on intel
That’s a bummer. When the upgrade first finished for me, and my ASD and 4kLG didn’t work through my dock I was concerned. I unplugged everything and still no go. Finally, shut down the MBP and restarted and everything came back to life. I was starting to really worry. It’s not often betas regress this much, this far into the process.

If that link is for DB7 (PB5), you should skip it. It's full of bugs. A lot more than DB6 (PB4).
DB6 (PB4) is much better version.

It is, and it sure is... But at least now I can try booting off a USB installer to run a disk repair or even reinstall all together. Who knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Use this site's link to get DB6 (PB4) instead...

or this (from the same source)
This is this same exact link I posted above, that's from Apple. I Know @MrMacintoshBlog gets his links from Apple, too, but I'm sure people might have more peace of mind getting it from Apple directly.

Still with the Video / VLC / iina bug. Otherwise seems to be stable enough.

weird issue with PB5.
Up to PB4, my Mac Studio worked fine connecting a monitor from USB-C to HDMI.
After PB5, my monitor does not show anything when connected USB-C to HDMI.

It only works when I connect HDMI to HDMI.

Reported to Apple.
Similar problem here with a MacBook Pro (M1). It's connected to 2 external monitors via a dock.

This worked with previous betas, but with this one, only one screen will work at a time. I can't even get the laptop display to work if at least one external monitor is plugged in and it won't even show in the Displays settings.

Right now, I *can* get it to work with *one* external monitor, but no other monitors at the same time, including the laptop one.

Reported to Apple.

I know this isn't as bad as monitors not working, but seriously, does nobody at Apple use their Mail.app at all? Quoting is totally broken now. I mean, it's *worse* than just broken! When I reply to a message, not only is there no quoting on the message I'm replying to, but any quoting that was in that message already is stripped! Who the hell wrote code to do that?!?

And, oh yeah, leading tabs/spaces get lost in quoted text now. Who is making brain-dead changes to working code?

Nevermind that for the last couple of years, disregarding all common sense and 40 years of tradition, when replying, it sticks a quote in front of the attribution line ("On xxx, yyy@zzz wrote:") as well as the actual message being quoted. Actually, wait, I do mind, a lot, since I have to fix it on every damn message I send.

At least they fixed drag-and-drop. No, I'm not feeling grateful yet. It's not really a high bar, to ask that new-and-improved OSes simply don't degrade the current experience.
