Unless it’s really different from beta 6! I haven’t updated yet so don’t take my word on it. Will check it out once I update. Now that I re-read your first post it sounds like something may have changed. With beta 6 I have the normal sidebar Downloads folder with the down arrow, and then the iOS folder inside iCloud Drive.
I tried turning off iCloud Drive in System Preferences, then restart and enabling again. Now I've lost Desktop files, Documents etc. It's still in iCloud on my phone. Did you (or others) have any suggestions/similar experience?

They are in the sidebar under your Home location in a folder called Recovered files. Just copy them into they're proper iCloud location and you will see them uploading again. I got everything fixed already on the public beta. I don't know what change they made or if it had anything to do with on the last beta the folder icons were missing for Documents & Desktop. And also iCloud Drive was broken in 3rd party apps on last beta. Seems to be fixed on this beta but claiming no permission to open location in 3rd party apps like Forklift.

I also copied the entire Recovered Files folder to an external drive to have a backup of incase things change or get screwed up again but I notice that the upload to iCloud is going very very slow....

It's also in the release notes...
  • After updating to macOS Catalina 10.15 Beta 7 or later, iCloud Drive might synchronize for an extended period of time. If you notice any missing files, they can be found inside a Recovered Files folder in your home folder. (54046219)

There's a new "Relocated Items" alias on the Desktop that appears to contain various customized configuration files that were not preserved during the upgrade. This appears to be new to this build.

Not new at all, was there when first beta came out, but mostly security files or out of date files were in it. It hit the trash the first day on my Mac. But there should be one in you home folder also that contains your iCloud Drive, for some reason they changed iCloud Drive on us and moved the files to a recovery files folder.

Did you guys read the iCloud info in the Feedback Assistant?

Known Issues
  • After updating to macOS Catalina 10.15 Beta 7 or later, iCloud Drive might synchronize for an extended period of time. If you notice any missing files, they can be found inside a Recovered Files folder in your home folder. (54046219)

  • Even when Optimize Storage is switched off, iCloud Drive might fail to automatically download all files. (50667204)

    Workaround: Download files individually.

  • When creating a new Pages, Numbers, or Keynote document in a shared folder, you might see the message "Couldn't connect to iCloud". (50827963)

Workaround: Close and reopen the document.
Resolved Issues
  • The Cloud Files section in About This Mac > Storage > Manage now accurately represents the current state of files on your Mac. (50362095)

All documents and folders on my desktop have now disappeared and iCloud is empty on MacBook Pro. On other devices, all my files are still in iCloud.

Yes they will still be on the other devices but they make a while to sync on your Mac. If any files are missing they are located in the Recovered Files folder, just copy them into iCloud Drive then...

Same experience as this once I updated. Which as others pointed out, appears to be a known issue from the release notes.

I didn’t check for the recovered folder but decided to just restore to beta 6 for the time being.

Interesting, it just showed up for me after updating. I took a look at the files and they all appear to be identical to the ones that are in the same paths now.

I did a clean install now and seems it's coming back—but takes a long time to sync even with small files and a 500/500 connection

I'm also having the same issue with files not showing. I didn't do a clean install but installed over the existing install from recovery and there is no difference. No iCloud Drive files appear.

cloudd and bird are showing high CPU usage in Activity Monitor but I don't see any files appearing. Crossing my fingers they start to appear eventually...

Makes sense, because they flat out destroyed iCloud Drive during this beta. This will be the version that attempts to repair the damage.

In my experience they can take several hours to start appearing. Apple's iCloud syncing is the worst syncing of any remotely comparable service. Even OneDrive is not as bad as this.

So everything synced however I still have the same problem of not being able to see anything on the desktop or when navigating to icloud folders via the finder sidebar shortcuts. If I navigate directly to "/Users/{{User}}/Library/CloudStorage/iCloud Drive" I can see all the files.

The sidebar iCloud Drive shortcut's path is "/Users/{{User}}/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs" which doesn't contain my data.

Anyone else experiencing this?

All I wanted to do was read more about Catalina, and now I feel the urge to go buy pop tarts.

Edit: strawberry to be precise.

I would recommend to run a google search on Family Guy Pop Tarts :)

Is this release stable enough for testing or should I wait now for the official?
I am not so sure I want to jump at this point on the beta train just for nothing.

Oh, yes...although I do miss the foil lined paper pouch from the 1970s when I was a kid. They simply tasted better. Or at least I though they did. Now its just a soulless plastiluminum wrapping, and they took all the trans-fats out that made them taste better. I also prefer my Pop-tarts burnt to a near cinder, but that's just me. My wife makes that face too...it's normal.

Mmmm, frosted pop tarts, Saturday morning cartoons, and dialing random numbers on the rotary dial just to listen to the clicks LOL.
