I had the 2012 rmbp since launch, and got the 2016 now, its a huge improvement for photography and music production wich i do both and those are 2 professional fields possible to do on laptops

I'm interested: in what way do you find the 2016 to be a huge improvement? Speed? Usability? Connect-ability?

I really think the lack of builtin SD card, magsafe, standard USBA ports, and the new keyboard will really annoy me...so I'm interested to hear how these changes have or have not affected you.

Speed, its around 4 times faster than the 2012 rmbp, i like the new keyboard more than the old one, for the feel, but like the sound a bit more on the old one. I also like the touchbar and touchid, though not many function come to touchbar yet.
The screen is better too.

The new ports are the best thing in my opinion, always felt it was to little usb3 ports (2) on the old one. Always had to use a usb hub because i had 3 usb units i wanted to connect at the same time. Now i can use my 4 ports as i want them to be. More versatile. And i started getting new cables instead of adaptors too.
Good thing with usb-c charging is that same port can be used for more things at the same time as charging. Like connecting those new LG monitors. My old magsafe fell out more unwanted times than it saved my computer, since it never saved it in 4 years :) i dont trip over the cable.

And i never used the SD card slot, even tough im a photographer. Its easier to just plug the cable into the camera. And i have fast and big size on the sd cards so they cost alot and i dont want to remove them from camera often which give alot of wear and tear until it stop working.

COULD ANY OF 100.000 APPLE EMPLOYEES FIND 10 MINUTES TO ISSUE RELEASE NOTES ??
....or practice other elementary manners of communication (after they're done recycling emojies)

If they would concentrate on getting it right the first time, perhaps they wouldn't have to run so many updates so close to the release dates of prior updates?

It seems like the schedule of updates has increased, rather than decrease. The updates appear to be scheduled even before the release of the prior update.

This, and the many issues that Apple is facing due to hardware flaws is really getting me more concerned than ever that Apple is really losing its focus and becoming JATC (Just Another Tech Company) and falling into the same bad habits.

Not that I'm saying Apple shouldn't change, but damn, the change isn't happening in a positive way. The problem with the changes on the MacBook Pro is that people don't have to buy the products. It's not like there aren't some damn good (now) alternatives, and radically altering the supplied ports will have an effect on purchasers. Their desktop systems languishing in 'old tech land' really sucks for people wanting to, needing to, update their desktop systems.

Is Apple trying to deplete their cash and make themselves less of a takeover target? Have they lost their mojo? Lost their focus? It would seem the answer to the last two rhetorical questions is Yes...

Graphics driver updates, for sure. :)

Finder version 10.12.2?
New version with bug fixes for Mail.app?

Etc.

Haven't tried the 10.12.2 betas, so just guessing about Finder and Mail, but should be pretty easy for someone to compare with what the versions are in macOS 10.12.1.

But why Apple doesn't provide more detailed changes is a bit sad I think. Maybe they don't think it's worth the time it takes to list it all. Better to just fix the problems and move on. :)

A way to sort folders in macOS Mail would be really welcome, as would a way to tell when I get mail that is moved to a folder due to a rule. I mean, this isn't asking for Apple to wrench Jupiter from its orbit, but you would think so by the inattention to these simple wants...

I echo all the points Jaekae made. The hand picked links measuring 2012-2016 CPU performance are misleading. That isn't the only way to measure performance.

The machine is easily at least 4 times faster when it comes to moving data and user feel. And for me the improved GPU is a huge improvement in anything GPU accelerated. Playing L4D2, exporting video.

I'm a video editor and deal with moving large amounts of data every day. The USB-C ports are awesome. Many of my peripherals have sped up now I have USB-C cables. My Lacie SSD also from 2012 gets 378/305 read write over thunderbolt 1. Over the new USB-C cable I bought I get 427/327. That's a 50MB/s increase in read speed. (see attached benchmark pic)

The single SD card slot in the 2012 I did use but it didn't help me when it came to ingesting footage from cameras that don't use SD Cards or use a later variant of SD card that the slot didn't support but many newer cameras use. So I was using a bulky card reader half the time anyway. Now I have an USB-C card reader smaller then a flash drive that supports more formats then the old one. I'm carrying LESS dongles.

And I haven't even mentioned the beautiful new screen (everyone seems to forget that), better speakers. Fantastic new touch pad. And I like the keyboard. In every meaning full way from interaction to user experience it's vastly improved machine over the 2012 model which was no slouch. It's the finest computer I've ever owned.

macOS Sierra 10.12.2 includes new emoji, introducing Unicode 9 characters like clown face, selfie, face palm, fox face, owl, shark, butterfly, avocado, bacon, and more, plus many profession emoji are available in both male and female genders.

Hmm. Rather thought they might be focusing on issues like GPU tearing and file transfer disruptions, etc.

I don't mind it.

I often learn of the existence of new betas from macrumors front page - before seeing it in my mac app store, or apple's developer portal.

So keep them coming macrumors - and front page is a good place for them.

It's not that I don't want to know about new beta's, it's the content of the article, from one beta to the next it's copy and paste, that's not how I like to see it.
Better say it once or twice instead of this copy and paste.
I really like beta's, install them asap.

No idea what's wrong for you but just to let you know with mine it works 100% of the time. Same with a friends and his new MBP. He has the original watch and I have series 2.

For me, it works consistently for a while. I don't remember the exact version, but it must be around public beta 2 or 3.
(27" iMac, Late 2013 /w classic Apple Watch)

Well, I have a Series 0, and so does my wife. Neither works consistently with our iPhone 7s connected to either a late 2013 13" MacBook Pro (Retina) or my 2014 5K iMac. Usually rebooting all devices fixes it until it stops working again later.

That's a shame. It's really handy. Hopefully it will get better. Airdrop between Mac/ phone ect used to be like that for me. Eventually it just worked all the time.

as would a way to tell when I get mail that is moved to a folder due to a rule. I mean, this isn't asking for Apple to wrench Jupiter from its orbit, but you would think so by the inattention to these simple wants...
Have you tried using Smart Folders to accomplish this? IIRC you can use a Smart Mailbox to badge the Dock icon too. Nice side effect is you'll find all your new unread messages collated in one place; as you read them, they'll get marked as such in whatever mailbox (folder) they reside.

On a side note, I don't rely on Smart Mailboxes much myself anymore because Mail.app has a nasty habit of just LOSING them spontaneously. And then you can't get them back or make them work anymore. That happened under 10.9; I've not yet had it happen with 10.12.1—though 10.12.1 didn't bring back all my 'lost' ones either. YMMV.

Just a simple bolding of the folder with a new message would be damn nice... Adding a number at that point would be icing on the cake, and somewhat superfluous. Just knowing where the messages are going after getting what looks like a 'immaculate notification'. It's damned comical, getting the *BONG*, and then having to look for the new message. Look through 50 some folders. One at a time. The notifications used to stay on the lock screen of my iPhone, but lately they seem to disappear after a while too. It's getting old...

I've thought of turning off the notification sound just because it's reminding me of what a freaking haslle getting messages is... It's embarrassing, having 'the computer for the rest of us', and the computer OS from the 'great satan' does that one simple task so damn well...

Hope the bug fixes do something, my well-maintained late 2014 rMBP on 12.1 has grown seriously buggy and developed many graphics glitches lately, especially in the past two weeks. Battery lasts 2-3 hours, fans run loud, a single iTunes or Finder app active can use up to 120% of CPU resulting in an unresponsive system, scrolling through lists of documents in Finder isn't smooth, navigating through folders takes very long load times (with 80GB of files on an SSD), windows get random graphics or start to tear. Am I the only one with these problems?

The monitor still goes irreversibly black after 2 cycles of Heaven with RX460 eGPU.

After boot, I also have to connect the monitor to a normal output before moving it to the eGPU so that it starts displaying.
