Same problem booting up. Appears to be vbox related. But the files previously mentioned aren't in /library/ extensions or /system/library/extensions

I can't use shift key after boot chime or command s.

Only command r works after I enter my firmware password. Then can launch terminal to navigate around

Im i missing something?Help!
Ok

I went into recovery. Used firmware tool. Removed firmware password. Then tried booting with safemode and single user. Somehow installation continued. Booted into dp6 and deleted the vbox files in /library/extensions.

Reboot and seems fine.

Scary. Going to do a new time machine backup.

Thanks for the previous suggestions and advice.

Still not seeing in app store, Any ideas? On DP 5

You can get it via direct links instead from apple's developer forums. Many people who have had difficulty with updates via mac app store have said direct links are a more successful way to update.

Haha... so true. I stopped reading this forum because of all the whining and unwarranted bashing. I decided to check it out again in hopes that the trolls would be bored and gone by now. No such luck, it seems.
The whiners and trolls can get to you, for sure, but you just learn to ignore them and mine the nuggets. This community has many good people interested in helping others rather than just wasting time.

El Capitan will be stable on christmas. Every year is the same, and let's be honest, it will 300% sure have bugs even on the version 1 when released...
oh yeah, honestly. I can't imaaagine why they're still in business. And the audacity they have! Changing things, like they know anything... well they don't, right? They shouldn't even be trying, the nitwits. It has been one big disaster since Tiger and they'll never be as good as then! And now.. this... wow. Apple dead in 3...2...1..

I don't know what they did with this build, but EVERYTHING is so fluid and fast. I've barely had any UI frame drops. Animations across the board feel speedier.
Ditto here: didn't expect this at all, but everything's smoother and faster. Even switching thru preference tabs is fast.

Tried to update and when it restarted I am getting this on the screen. Any help?

I had the exact same problem restart and hold down the shift key for Safe Mode, Then go to https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads and download 5.0 for Mac host. Open it then click on uninstall and it will remove the virtual box kext file that is causing the problem.

Good. Among 3 betas (iOS 9, watchOS 2, and OS X El Capitan), El Capitan is the buggiest and least stable by far (and probably the most complex update). I welcome higher beta counts to get the OS as smooth and stable as possible.

In what way? The only Issues I had with it were typical UI bugs but those are gone now. I've only had one crash with it.

I agree. While I don't have the beta for Apple Watch, El Capitan has been the most stable. It has its slow downs every now and again, but as a whole, everything seems to be working just fine.

iOS9 on the other had...
If my phone gets stuck in landscape one more time!

After Outlook for Mac 2015 was fixed and I found the Fantastical 2 Beta (which they just released an update as well), I can't even tell it's a beta. I don't really want to try iOS beta quite yet...waiting on Plex to get their stuff updated and then i'll try it on my iPad.

I'm actually really looking forward to this update.
More speed, more stability, better graphics rendering.
What's not to like?

If they gave us an option to change the hideous re-size buttons colors it would be perfect.

They are in apple's developer forums. I'm not going to post it here though to avoid dramas with moderators.
Ok, I will have a look there. I am a registered developer, so that is no problem.

EDIT: I have found the links and there is also a link for a firmware update, but it doesn't say what this is for. Do you know more?

Just give me a way to disable the enlarged mouse when I shake it around to find it. Thanks.

Yes.

If you download it via the mac app store the firmware update downloads together with the os x delta update. It won't show up separately in the mac app store itself, but you can check that it downloads to the same numbered folder within /Library/Updates/ that the delta update downloads to.

It has been this way since 10.10.2 for betas and also public releases.

So there is nothing unusual about this for this beta of el capitan.

But it just means that if you want to do it via direct download instead, you have to remember to do the firmware update too.

Is this for all Macs?

ok stop using that brick word. nothing is bricked if you can still do a software restore.
sorry. but i updated and then when i came back i had a stop logo and it wouldnt restore from time machine. currently doing it with the internet and it seems to be working now...

For me, issues are numerous (many are thankfully fixed on DP6). Some of the highlights:

Waking up from sleep frequently fails (keyboard and trackpad do not respond).

Many apps do not work right.

Plugging in iPhone or iPad either fails to charge the device or triggers PTCamera process to use 20-40% CPU constantly.

Mail app is unstable.

Is this for all Macs?

In this case it doesn't matter.

But without the most up-to-date firmware your hardware could have undesirable consequences with this OS X update and your bug reports could be deemed invalid.

The same could be said for any build of OS X since the 10.10.2 betas.

With direct downloads it is technically possible to update the system without the firmware update but I would advise against doing this.
