My work iMac wasn't signed into iCloud at all until a few months ago because I needed it to receive 2FA codes for signing into an Apple Developer account. It would literally not be signed into iCloud at all still if I hadn't needed that.
It’s frustrating. I imagine there are considerable security hurdles to overcome to enable that use case though. How would you stop someone hijacking your computer simply by sitting beside you in a Cafe? They’ll need to create some means for the second device to ‘trust’ the first one. Given Apple’s ‘just works’ mantra, I imagine they’ll want to make it work with minimum effort first, and make a judgement call on whether new use cases are worth prioritising over other new features.

That sounds a bit like what APFS does with Containers. Not saying i know much about those or about these others.
I'll have to look into that. I've being using vdo more than stratis which I think is Red Hat proprietary. I've set it up in a VM and have been able to transfer files the VM.
