Controller thing is such a joke. You can bluetooth attach a controller to your Mac that won't work on 90% of applications! Why even advertise it? In Windows you can easily map controllers to everything with tons of driver options. M1 Mac contact the developer that won't update the app in question.

With Big Sur's visual refresh Apple decided to finally move from MacOS 10.x to 11, and is now going to follow iOS versioning where the first number is the major (annual) release and the second and third are for point releases and minor revisions respectively.

Having versioning match iOS will be less confusing I think; this change was overdue.
Agreed.

Big Sur won’t have vaguely identified updates called “Supplemental Update” where you can’t tell which order they were released or which minor version they require. Those will instead be increments of the third part of the version number, as will security-only updates later in Big Sur’s life cycle.

The second part of the version number is incremented for minor feature changes, the third for updates which only have bug fixes and/or security fixes.

Betas are more complicated.

I haven’t checked, but 11.3b3 could just be 11.3b2 plus the changes in 11.2.2, i.e. the USB-C fix, with no other changes. The lack of iOS updates at the same time (or a day earlier) makes this more likely - 11.3b3 seems to be outside the normal beta release pattern.

Edit: scratch that last bit. The releases were just in an unusual order.

Anyone know if the Safari builds with the vastly improved scrolling performance have made it into this beta? If so that would be worth installing it for me, but otherwise I'll just wait for public release.

Ships with Safari 14.1 (16611.1.18.1.2) which is better than 14.0 but still worse than Safari 13.1.3 in terms of scrolling performance.

macOS Big Sur 11.3 adds support for the latest PlayStation 5 DualSense and Xbox Series X/S controllers for use with macOS games.

What for? There's hardly any games to play in Mac OS, it's a dead platform for gamers.

I'm still of the mind that this update will be released, as well as iOS 14.5, in three weeks or so to support, among other things, the new AS low-end iMac and the new iPad Pro (mini-LED?) models. Pure speculation, ofc.

No, it's the same as far as I can tell.

I updated to 11.3 third beta from 11.2.2, and my side loaded iOS apps (not available on store for M1) stopped working, ı am getting a permissions error. I also can't side load new iOS apps.

Yup, that's how it works. You will never get them back either now, unless the developer of the app chooses to make it available for Mac.

Thanks, well, next time I should be more careful before jumping gun on beta macOS.

With beta 2 I have a bit lag and when I pause a video it carry’s on the audio for a few seconds
I hope this finally fixes the open/save dialog box size!
Are you the same one that complains every release? If so, what are you talking about? The open/save dialog works fine in every application I use. So maybe you can provide what app, what screen settings you are using, maybe even what computer you are using. I try to duplicate, but like I said, it works fine for me. 2014 MPB 15" default settings, I use Numbers/Pages/Preview

Are they going to fix the issue with long update times. I thought one of the features of Big Sur was meant to be streamlined quick updates.

Why is the numbering convention for MacOS 11 different than 10? Shouldn't every .x update be another name and logo with intermediate .x.x fixes? Did I miss something?
They are more than likely bringing macOS versioning in line with the rest of their OSs. So, the next major version of macOS released this year should be macOS 12, alongside iOS 15, tvOS 15 and iPadOS 15.

This is why the operating system was renamed a few years ago (Mac OS X -> macOS); they were getting ready for this change.

Yes, the "X" in "OS X" played not only on the sea change that it represented from OS 9, but also on its Unix roots. Dropping the Roman numeral made staying on 10 less of a big deal.

I actually thought Catalina would have been a good time to make the change. With its introduction of volume groups and a read-only system volume, it was a bigger change than some people realize.

So, Apple is already on .3 ... bets on when they'll get to the last version and whether it'll be something to consider installing at that point?
